Scholarship Description
Purpose
To provide an incentive to students currently enrolled in course work related to nondestructive testing (NDT) in a program of study learning to an undergraduate degree, an associate degree or a post-secondary certificate. The scholarship memorializes ASNT Past President, Honorary Member and Fellow Robert B. Oliver.
Eligibility
Students applying for the scholarship must be officially enrolled in an undergraduate degree, associate degree, or certificate program which includes studies in NDT.
Method of Selection
The Education Division of the Technical and Education Council awards up to three $2,500 scholarships each year to students who have submitted the most outstanding manuscript about NDT research, investigation or development (provided all applicants have met the established guidelines).
Please note: Because the award may be made after the completion of studies, there is no requirement that the student use the funds for school expenses. Also, it is not necessary for an applicant to attend ASNT’s Annual Conference to be eligible for the Scholarship.
Evaluation Criteria: Selection is based on creativity (10 points), content (50 points), format and readability (25 points) and the student’s hands-on involvement in the project (15 points) – totaling 100 points

Materials Submitted
Completed application form – signed by applicant & school official (download form); All applications must be submitted electronically.
Original copy of the student’s NDT manuscript (see manuscript criteria below);
Curriculum of student, showing classroom hours of NDT course work (may attach school’s published curriculum if available);
Transcript of grades showing all of student’s completed course work; if educational institution will submit electronically then have them submit the transcript to ASNT using the webpage for submission of application; if educational institution does not submit transcripts electronically then mail transcript to ASNT HQ Contact Information below. and,
Letter from an instructor or school official verifying the student’s enrollment.

Nomination deadline: 15th of February
The Education Division of the Technical and Education Council will provide its recommendation to the ASNT Board of Directors during ASNT’s Research Symposium
Recipients will be notified following the Research Symposium
Funds will be made available in: July
Awards will be presented at ASNT’s Annual Conference

Students applying for the Award must submit the following:

Manuscript Criteria
*Manuscripts should develop an original concept in NDT and may be based on practical experience, laboratory work or library research. Papers may be classroom assignments for work outside NDT, such as an English class.
*Submission of a manuscript means that it has not been published elsewhere and that it will not be published elsewhere while under consideration by ASNT. Manuscripts from the scholarship winner will be copyrighted by ASNT and submitted for publication in Materials Evaluation, one of the Society’s technical journals. No payment is made for the use of articles. A complimentary copy of the journal containing published manuscripts is provided to the student. Details of manuscript submission are outlined below:
The manuscript must be submitted as an electronic file.
The manuscript must contain title, author and complete references.
The manuscript is limited to 5,000 words and a maximum of ten illustrations.
Photographs should be high resolution digital images.
Photographs and line drawings, if submitted, must be original (not taken from a published source).
The International System of Units or SI, the approved international metric system, is preferred for all measurement.
