Scholarship Description
The purpose:
This scholarship was established as a permanent tribute to the years of dedicated fundraising for the American Heart
Association of Melvin P. and Esther L. Nelson. This scholarship will enable a medical student to participate in health
science research at a Minnesota institution and to explore the field of research as a career.
Who is eligible:
Minnesota Students Only: Medical students registered at a teaching institution in the State of Minnesota are eligible for this
award.
How the scholar is selected:
The scholar will be chosen on merit by an American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate Committee of medical and/or
scientific professionals.
The scholarship:
The successful candidate will receive a stipend of $1,200 for a period of full-time research (usually three months duration)
with the sponsor.
How candidates apply:
Candidates must submit the appropriate form and complete all other requirements.
