Ellen Hines Scholarship

Scholarship Description

The Ellen Hines Scholarship was created from proceeds of the 2007 Ouimet Annual Banquet at the request of Banquet honorees Barbara and Jack Nicklaus, who were long time friends of Ellen and John Hines. Mrs. Hines died of cancer in 2005. She was a Fontbonne Academy and Regis College graduate and former St. Patrick’s of Natick grade school teacher. She lived for many years in the Columbus, Ohio and Jupiter, Florida areas. She and her husband John are both Boston natives.Mrs. Hines was a fine golfer and lover of the game, family and travel and was a member of Woods Hole Golf Club for 35 years. The Scholarship is for an Ouimet Scholar who is studying for a career in education.To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must have completed at least two years service to golf as caddies, helpers in the pro shop, or course superintendent operations at a club in Massachusetts. The awards are “need-based” and assist with tuition at accredited undergraduate institutions.
