Scholarship Description
The John P. Hamill Scholarship was established from the proceeds of the 2005 Spirit of Golf event in which Mr. Hamill washonored for his love of the game of golf and commitment to charitable and community endeavors. Mr. Hamill was Chairmanof Sovereign Bank and formerly was President of Fleet National Bank and President at Shawmut. He is a member of Eastward Ho! Country Club, Cape Cod National Golf Club, and Wellesley Country Club. The Hamill Scholarship is for an Ouimet Scholar from the inner-city.To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must have completed at least two years service to golf as caddies, helpers in the pro shop, or course superintendent operations at a club in Massachusetts. The awards are “need-based” and assist with tuition at accredited undergraduate institutions.
