Scholarship Description
This scholarship honors Mr. Ganong, who grew up as a caddie at Brae Burn Country Club. Mr. Ganong went on to attendBoston College with the help of the Ouimet Scholarship. He also played college golf at BC. Mr. Ganong spent his entire working career in the investment business, retiring as a Director from Schroder Wertheim in 2002. He is a member of Wellesley Country Club, and former member of Charles River Country Club. He was an Ouimet Fund Board Member from 1991-2009, and also served as Alumni Chairman from 1991-2002. He is also a golf rules official and serves on the Massachusetts Golf AssociationExecutive Committee. The Richard J. Ganong Scholarship is primarily limited to Ouimet Scholars from Brae Burn or Wellesley Country Clubs. The award was established by his family.To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must have completed at least two years service to golf as caddies, helpers in the pro shop, or course superintendent operations at a club in Massachusetts. The awards are “need-based” and assist with tuition at accredited undergraduate institutions.
