Scholarship Description
The Tom Barrett Memorial Scholarship was created by the family of Mr. Barrett in 2005. Mr. Barrett was a Vice President of the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, and the founder and first Chairman of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament. He was also a President of Woodland Golf Club. He had been a sales executive with a school supplies company and died in 1974 at age 46. The Barrett Memorial Scholarship is given each year to a Ouimet Scholar from one of the clubs that hosts a round of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament that year.To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must have completed at least two years service to golf as caddies, helpers in the pro shop, or course superintendent operations at a club in Massachusetts. The awards are “need-based” and assist with tuition at accredited undergraduate institutions.
