Scholarship Description

This award was established in 2002 and is for a Ouimet Scholar(s) from Brookline who has worked or been connected withBrookline Golf Club at Putterham and has attended Brookline Public Schools for at least six years. Two long-time friends who are natives of Brookline, Roger Altman and Jay McLaughlin established the award. Mr. Altman is Chairman of Evercore Partners, specializing in mergers and acquisitions of major media properties. He is a former Deputy and Assistant Secretary of theUnited States Treasury. He lives in the New York City area. Mr. McLaughlin is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is also a former United States Treasury official. He was Area Manager of Governmental Services for Waste Management in the Mid-Atlantic States area and lives near Philadelphia.To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must have completed at least two years service to golf as caddies, helpers in the pro shop, or course superintendent operations at a club in Massachusetts. The awards are “need-based” and assist with tuition at accredited undergraduate institutions.
