Scholarship Description
The J.T. – Minnie Maude Charitable Trust (“Trust”) was founded to provide financial assistance for the pursuit of higher education to deserving U.S. citizens who currently reside in and who have resided in the Virginia counties of Halifax, Henry, Pittsylvania and the North Carolina counties of Caswell and Rockingham (including all towns or cities located within these 5 counties), for a minimum of twelve consecutive months at the time of application. The scholarship selection committee reserves the right to determine residency.Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement and promise, financial need, and other related selection criteria. Award amounts will vary, up to and including a possible full scholarship.Recipients may attend any accredited public or private, two or more year college or university, or an institution offering a one year certificate degree. Payments will be made directly to the educational institution of enrollment.Scholarships will be awarded on an objective and non-discriminatory basis, without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, gender or disability. Information requested in application will be used for statistical/demographic purposes only and will have no affect on the awarding of scholarships.For award purposes, the Trust normally considers the fall semester and the following spring semester to be an academic year. For trade/technical or Non-Traditional students, the academic year may be different.Personal interviews may be scheduled with any applicant.TO QUALIFY: * Must be a U.S. citizen and meet the residency requirements stated in the General Scholarship Guidelines * Must be a graduating high school senior, high school graduate or have obtained a GED * Traditional student enrolling or currently enrolled seeking a Diploma or Certificate must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale through most recent completed semester * Traditional student enrolling or currently enrolled seeking an Associate or Bachelor degree must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale through the most recent completed semester * Non-Traditional student GPA will be considered on an applicant by applicant basis * Traditional and Non-Traditional student who received an award within the last 12 months and is seeking the same degree level should refer to the General Scholarship Guidelines for minimum GPA requirements (Reminder: Submit completed Volunteer Record form as required in prior year award letter) * Must have applied to or be enrolled at one or more accredited post secondary institutions as a full/part time student in a degree, diploma or certificate curriculum
