Scholarship Description
The public is very dependent on news that is gathered and presented every day. Good journalism requires talent, dedication and a genuine interest in seeing the total picture and understanding what is most important. Diversity among journalists, especially in a region like the San Francisco Bay Area, plays a crucial role ensuring comprehensive and balanced presentation of the news. Filipinos have been underrepresented in journalism, so the founder of Filipinas Magazine, Mona Lisa Yuchengco, created this scholarship to support students of Filipino heritage who choose to pursue careers in journalism. General Information The Maria Elena Yuchengco Memorial Journalism Scholarship will award two to three scholarships totaling $5,000 each year. This scholarship was created through the Asian Pacific Fund to provide educational opportunities for Filipino American students to pursue journalism as a major or a career.
