Scholarship Description
DESCRIPTION: The American Research Institute in Turkey invites applications for a fellowship to support excavation and/or research in art history and archaeology to be carried out at the site of Aphrodisias in Turkey. This award is made possible by the generous support of the American Friends of Aphrodisias in honor of Professor Kenan T. Erim, excavator and scholar of the site of Aphrodisias. Maximum award will be $2,375 for the summer season. ELIGIBILITY: Scholars or advanced graduate students engaged in excavation at the site of Aphrodisias or research on material from that site are eligible to apply. Fields of study include the history of art and architecture from antiquity to the present, and archaeology. Graduate student applicants must have fulfilled all preliminary requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation before beginning any ARIT-sponsored research. Applicants may also qualify for other ARIT fellowship programs. APPLICATION PROCEDURE: In order to be considered, applicants must submit an application, a letter of acceptance from a director of the excavations at Aphrodisias, and two letters of reference. Please refer to the application format and cover page appended here. Please include letters of reference with your application. Graduate students should supply a copy of their graduate transcript. RESEARCH PERMISSION: Project permission should be included within the Aphrodisias excavation permit.
