Scholarship Description
The George J. Barker Memorial Scholarship supports graduate level educational efforts, including direct student scholarships, in arts and sciences beneficial to the cast metal industry, particularly within the Wisconsin Chapter AFS membership area.Applications are submitted electronically on the FEF website and initially evaluated by the FEF. Final evaluation and selection of grant recipients are made through an interview process conducted by the George J. Barker Memorial Research Foundation Interview and Evaluation Committee. This Committee conducts interviews of each candidate either in person or via telephone. The Committee uses a cascade of criteria in considering applications. The maximum award could be as much as $5,000.00 although many factors such as funds availability, the number of qualified applicants, the needs of the individual applicants and the screening criteria below all can affect the sizes of the awards.Residency The Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, Canada or Mexico. Preference is then given as follows: * Resident of the State of Wisconsin * Resident of a state adjacent to Wisconsin * Resident other than aboveEducation - School Preference is given as follows: * Attending an FEF accredited or affiliated school in the State of Wisconsin * Attending any other FEF accredited or affiliated school * Attending a Wisconsin school * Attending any other schoolEducation - Course of Study The Applicant must be actively pursuing graduate level studies and must be performing at an acceptable level. Preference is then given as follows: * Pursuing a course of study in Engineering or the hard sciences directly related to the foundry industry and most likely leading to employment in the foundry industry * Pursuing a course of study leading to employment in the foundry industry * Pursuing a course of study leading to employment in academia in a field related to the foundry industryWork Experience - Please include this information in the text box below It is not required that the Applicant be employed. Full time students are eligible. However, preference is given as follows: * Currently employed full time or part time by a Wisconsin foundry * Currently employed full time or part time by a foundry outside of Wisconsin * Likely to begin employment or remain employed in the foundry industry
