Hsiao Memorial Economics Scholarship

Established in honor of Liang-Lin Hsiao who was a professor of economics at Indiana State University
Eligibility Criteria:
Grade level: Graduate student attending US based college or university
Minimum GPA: 3.0
Pursuing a graduate degree in economics
Career: preference given to students pursuing a career in academia (teaching or research)
Research/study topics: preference given to topics that benefit Asians or Asian Americans, especially those in social/economic need
Ethnic heritage: Asian heritage (at least 50%), preference to students of Chinese descent
U.S. citizen, resident or foreign national

Evelyn J. Barclay Fund
This scholarship is given to a doctoral applicant in nursing education or research.
The criteria that are given the most consideration when selecting candidates are:
• Academic excellence, which is given first priority; and
• Potential for contributing to the profession.
To qualify for an NEF award, you must be:
• A registered nurse;
• A member of a professional nursing association;
• Enrolled full- or part-time in a doctoral program in nursing or a nursing related field, with a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher;
• A U.S. citizen or have declared your official intention of becoming one.
NEF scholarships are given for a full academic year and are non-renewable. Completed applications, including all support material must be received in the NEF office no later than February 1. If all materials do not reach us by that date, your entire application will be declared ineligible.
There is a small, non-refundable processing fee of $20 for each application. Checks should be made payable to NEF and included with your application.
NEF scholarships are competitive. The number of awards and the amount of each depend upon available funds.
Judith G. Whitaker Fund
A former scholar recipient and ANA Executive Director, the fund was started with $50,000. Ms. Whitaker added $5,000 each year until her death. Given to a doctoral applicant in nursing research or organizational study.

• Potential for contributing to the profession.

Research Grants in Armenian Studies
The National Association for Armenian Studies and Research (NAASR) is prepared to consider applications for grants for research within the field of Armenian Studies. As funds are very limited, the following conditions should be noted by prospective applicants:
1. Grants may be given for travel, cost of digitization or microfilm or other research materials and for similar expenses, for a period not exceeding one year. Excluded are stipends for living expenses in the applicant's own institution or home and scholarships to colleges and universities.
2. Each applicant must state in full detail the purpose and scope of his research. Applicants must also indicate the exact sum of money required and whether other sources have been approached for financial support, giving the proposed itinerary in the case of an application for travel funds. In addition to a curriculum vitae, recommendations from at least two persons of academic standing familiar with the applicant's previous work and proposed research are required.
3. A copy of any book, article, report or other work, the writing of which has been assisted by a grant, is to be deposited with NAASR. A final report and financial accounting is expected within 15 months of a grant. Support of NAASR should be acknowledged in any publication resulting from a research grant.
4. NAASR reserves the right of access to all microfilms, software, copies of documents, or other materials acquired with a NAASR grant.

Knights of Vartan Fund for Armenian Studies
The National Association for Armenian Studies and Research (NAASR) and the Knights of Vartan collaborate on administering the Knights’ Fund for Armenian Studies (FAS).
All proposals received are reviewed by the Executive Committee of NAASR’s Board of Directors, which decides whether the proposal should be reviewed by its NAASR Academic committee as a potential Knights of Vartan grant. Proposals for grants are subject to approval by the NAASR Academic Committee and the Board of Trustees of the Knights of Vartan FAS.
The Knights of Vartan Fund for Armenian Studies provides fellowships and support for scholarly research and publication in the field of Armenian Studies to qualified scholars in any institution of higher learning, at the graduate or post-doctoral levels. Grants may also be made to fund lectures, seminars, and conferences. Funds are not available for undergraduate research or for work that falls outside the field of Armenian Studies.

Minnesota Heart Research Scholarships
The American Heart Association is working with partners to provide scholarships that allow students to explore the field of cardiovascular research as a career by providing opportunities to work with researchers at Minnesota institutions.
Who is eligible?
Minnesota students only. One scholarship is for undergraduate students currently enrolled in a four year college or university in the State of Minnesota; three scholarships are for medical students registered at a teaching institution in the State of Minnesota.
How many will be selected?
This year, there is one undergraduate award and three medical student awards.
How are the scholars selected?
The scholars will be chosen on merit by an American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate committee of medical professionals and lay people. Notification of the scholarship award will be made in spring.

The Howard B. Burchell, M.D., Ph. D., Heart Scholarship
The Purpose:
This scholarship was established as a permanent tribute to the outstanding contributions of Howard B. Burchell, M.D., Ph.D. to cardiovascular research and teaching. This scholarship will enable a medical student to participate in health science research at a Minnesota institution and to explore the field of research as a career.
Who Is Eligible:
Minnesota Students Only; medical students registered at a teaching institution in the State of Minnesota are eligible for this
award.
How The Scholar Is Selected:
The scholar will be chosen on merit by an American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate Committee of medical and/or
scientific professionals.
The Scholarship:
The successful candidate will receive a stipend of $4500 for a period of full-time research (usually three months duration) with
the sponsor.
How candidates apply:

The James H. Moller, M.D., Heart Scholarship
The Purpose:
This scholarship was established to honor the outstanding, lifelong commitment demonstrated by Dr. Moller to the American
Heart Association’s mission of reducing disability and death from cardiovascular disease and stroke. This scholarship will
enable a medical student to participate in health science research at a Minnesota institution and to explore the field of
research as a career.
Who Is Eligible:
Minnesota Students Only: Medical students registered at a teaching institution in the State of Minnesota are eligible for this
award.
How The Scholar Is Selected:
The scholar will be chosen on merit by an American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate Committee of medical and/or scientific
professionals.
The Scholarship:
The successful candidate will receive a stipend of $1200 for a period of full-time research (usually three months duration) with
the sponsor.
How Candidates Apply:

Melvin P. Nelson & Esther L. Nelson Heart Scholarship
The purpose:
This scholarship was established as a permanent tribute to the years of dedicated fundraising for the American Heart
Association of Melvin P. and Esther L. Nelson. This scholarship will enable a medical student to participate in health
science research at a Minnesota institution and to explore the field of research as a career.
Who is eligible:
Minnesota Students Only: Medical students registered at a teaching institution in the State of Minnesota are eligible for this
award.
How the scholar is selected:
The scholar will be chosen on merit by an American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate Committee of medical and/or

The Helen N. & Harold B. Shapira Heart Medical Scholarship
The Purpose:
To stimulate interest in the study of heart and blood vessel diseases.
The Scholarship:
Every year one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a medical student. The successful candidate will be eligible for a
renewal of the $1,000 award for a second year provided they maintain satisfactory scholastic progress. Renewals will be considered in conjunctions with all new applications.
Who Is Eligible:
Minnesota Students Only: Medical students currently enrolled in a Minnesota state medical school and working in a
curriculum with potential application to patients with diseases of the heart and blood vessel system are eligible.
How the Scholars Are Selected:
Scholars will be chosen on merit by an American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate Committee of medical and/or scientific
professionals.

The NSHSS Foundation provides STEM scholarships for underrepresented groups in order to help reduce financial barriers for those with academic and leadership potential and the desire to pursue STEM careers. National Potato Council Scholarship Program
