Physical Therapy Scholarships

$10,000 two-year scholarship Ideal candidates are a current member of AQHA pursuing a career in the field of hippotherapy through physical therapy, occupational therapy and or speech language pathology. Related college majors may include, but are not limited to, communication disorders, sports and exercise science or kinesiology. Members should apply while enrolled as a sophomore at an accredited university or has been accepted to a related graduate school program. Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to the junior and senior year of a four-year undergraduate degree program or a two-year graduate degree program as specified above.

Eligibility: An applicant must meet all of the following criteria to be an eligible candidate: Be a Un=ited States resident with a valid ID; Be enrolled in a Physical Therapy program in an accredited college; Be a college sophomore, junior or senior OR a grad student; Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Workforce Shortage Student Assistance Grant (WSSAG) program is for students who plan on working in specific career/occupational programs upon graduation. Eligible fields include: child care, human services, teaching, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, social work, and public service. Who may apply: Current high school seniors, full-time and part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an eligible accredited Maryland postsecondary institution. How to apply: Complete the Workforce Shortage Student Assistance Grant application online at https://mdcaps.mhec.state.md.us and submit official transcripts from all institutions you have ever attended. To be considered based on need, students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov for the application year. The FAFSA is not required; however, it will be used to determine the order in which students will be awarded. Certain majors may require additional documentation, which will be noted on the application. When to apply: File the WSSAG application by July 1 Eligible majors: Eligible majors and employment fields will be determined by an Advisory Council biennially and will address statewide and regional workforce needs. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS You and your parents (if you are a dependent student) must be Maryland residents. You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time (12+ credits per semester) or part-time (6-11 credits per semester) degree seeking undergraduate student, or a full-time (9+ credits per semester) or part-time (6-8 credits per semester) degree seeking graduate student. Audited courses cannot be used to reach the minimum credit hours for full-time or part-time status. NOTE: Individuals who have received scholarships in prior years under MHEC's former career/occupational programs (Child Care Provider; Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health, Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Workforce Tuition Assistance Program) will continue to receive their awards as long as they remain eligible. Students who receive one of these former awards are not eligible to also receive a WSSAG award. MERIT AND/OR NEED-BASED CRITERIA Both merit and need-based criteria will be used when making awards. Applicants will be ranked by Grade Point Average (GPA) and then by need within each occupational field. Those students with the greatest need within each GPA range will be awarded first. To determine a student’s merit ranking, transcripts will be required. To determine the GPA ranking of students, a cumulative, unweighted GPA will be used. If necessary, GPAs will be recalculated to be considered on a standardized 4.0 scale. To determine a student’s need ranking, a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be filed by the applicant and received by OSFA by the July 1 deadline; however, it is not mandatory to file the FAFSA to be eligible to receive an award. AWARD AMOUNT Award amounts are set at the statutory minimum and are based on the type of institution and the student’s enrollment status. The award is $2,000 per year if attending a Maryland community college full-time (12+ credits per semester) or $1,000 per year if part-time (6-11 credits per semester). The award is $4,000 per year if attending a Maryland four-year institution full-time (12+ credits per semester for undergraduate; 9+ credits per semester for graduate) or $2,000 per year if part-time (6-11 credits per semester for undergraduate; 6-8 credits per semester for graduate). The total dollar amount of all State awards may not exceed a student's cost of attendance as determined by the school's financial aid office or $19,000, whichever is less.

A Place for Mom is proud to offer our annual $1,000 scholarship to five university students who intend to use their education to help the senior population such as nursing, medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, sociology, social work or gerontology. The annual scholarship award is for (5) students enrolled in an associates's degree, bachelor's degree or graduate level program in a medical, nursing or social sciences related major. Employees of A Place for Mom and members of their immediate family (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and persons living in the same household, whether or not related, of such employees, are not eligible to apply. 3. Applicants must complete a letter of introduction and an essay that is between 500 and 900 words on a selected topic and sign the Scholarship Award Agreement 4. Scholarship will be awarded to five students who write the most compelling essay in each of five categories as judged by an outside panel of senior living professionals.

For the fourth consecutive year, the partners are offering sixteen $2,500 tuition-focused scholarships for minority women pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in healthcare fields. The scholarship disbursement amount is $500 x 4, for a total of $2000. Four unique winners will be selected yearly to receive a one-time payment of $500. The Massachusetts Gilbert Matching Student Grant Program (GMSGP) makes funds available to participating Massachusetts' institutions of higher education and schools of nursing. At least one hundred percent of such funds must be used for direct financial assistance to needy Massachusetts's undergraduate students to enable them to attend or continue to attend such institutions. Who Is Eligible? To be eligible for a Massachusetts Gilbert Grant, a student must: Be a dependent student who is a permanent legal resident of Massachusetts and whose source of support is a parent who has been a permanent resident of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the twelve months prior to the opening of the academic year; or an independent student who has been a permanent resident of the Commonwealth for the twelve months immediately preceding the opening of the academic year. Be a United States citizen or an eligible non citizen. Not have earned a bachelor's or professional degree or their equivalent. Not be in default of a Federal or state education loan or owe a refund on any previously received financial aid. Demonstrate financial aid need according to program guidelines. Be maintaining satisfactory academic progress according to institutional and Federal standards. Be in compliance with applicable laws regarding Selective Service Registration. Be enrolled full-time. Not have earned a first diploma from a hospital or professional nursing program. The Purpose: To stimulate interest in the study of heart and blood vessel diseases. The Scholarship: Every year one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate. The successful candidate will be eligible for a renewal of the $1,000 award for a second year provided they maintain satisfactory scholastic progress. Renewals will be considered in conjunctions with all new applications Who Is Eligible: Minnesota Students Only: Undergraduate students currently enrolled in a four year college or university in the State of Minnesota and working in a medically related curriculum with potential application to patients with diseases of the heart and blood vessel system are eligible. Students can receive no more than two undergraduate scholarships from the American Heart Association.
