The Kenneth and Hilda Schmeck Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Kenneth and Hilda Schmeck, who both previously worked in the medical profession in some capacity. They were true believers in the benefits of higher education and would be proud to fund this scholarship. Proof of current citizenship is required. A Place for Mom is proud to annually offer a $1,000 scholarship to five university students who intend to use their education to help the senior population through their fields of study. These may include nursing, medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, sociology, social work or gerontology. As North America's largest senior living referral service, we know the importance of supporting the training and education of our future senior care leaders. This scholarship will be awarded to a citizen or a Permanent Resident of the United States or Canada (excluding Quebec) who is enrolled and currently taking classes at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada (excluding Quebec), and will grant selected applicants a $1,000 financial donation for their compelling essays on how to improve the quality of life for seniors. Selection and Eligibility Criteria 1. The annual scholarship award is for (5) students enrolled in an associates's degree, bachelor's degree or graduate level program in a medical, nursing or social sciences related major. The student must intend on pursuing a career that involves working with senior citizens. The applicant must be attending classes at an accredited college or university at the time of the spring deadline. 2. Employees of A Place for Mom and members of their immediate family (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and persons living in the same household, whether or not related, of such employees, are not eligible to apply. 3. Applicants must complete a letter of introduction and an essay that is between 500 and 900 words on a selected topic and sign the Scholarship Award Agreement 4. Scholarship will be awarded to five students who write the most compelling essay in each of five categories as judged by an outside panel of senior living professionals. Award Amount $1,000 awarded to five individuals.

American Medical Resource Institute (AMRI) is bringing back the annual scholarship program for students pursuing a career in the healthcare industry. This includes nurses, EMT’s, physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals. One applicant will be awarded $1,000 for completing a 2000-word essay covering one of two healthcare topics. A winner will be chosen on merit.

The Imagine America Foundation created its Imagine America High School Scholarship Program in 1998 to help provide scholarships for high school students. This annual scholarship program has helped thousands of high school seniors afford a career education at hundreds of career schools across the United States. Each year, every high school in the United States and Puerto Rico may nominate up to five graduating seniors to receive a $1,000 Imagine America scholarship!

IMPORTANT DATES Applications Accepted: February 10, 2017 - January 29, 2018 Final Award Selection: March 15, 2018 Scholarship Awarded: Spring Quarter 2018 REQUIREMENTS The Healthcare Leaders Scholarship is offered to students entering or currently pursuing an educational program related to nursing or medicine. Applicant must be a US citizen, at least 17 years of age, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. All applicants must submit a 600 to 1,000-word essay explaining what they hope to accomplish during their career in the medical field and how the scholarship would fulfill those goals. Recommended topics are included in the Personal Essay section. All applications must be received by January 29th, 2018. Finalists will be notified in February and must provide proof of enrollment and GPA (letters of acceptance, transcripts, etc.) before the scholarship recipient is selected. SELECTION Applications will be reviewed by a panel. The winner will be selected based on the criteria set forth in the requirements section of this document. Once the winner is decided and notified of the award, he/she will receive a mailed 1099-MISC tax form and the check will be delivered to their address. The winner of the scholarship award will be fully responsible for the taxes incurred from receiving the award.
