News Media Scholarships

The King Family Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship Program awards up to $7,000 in scholarships to undergraduate students majoring in television, film, and related media fields. Applicants must demonstrate academic ability, financial need and professional potential.

Application Requirements/Description: Scholarships are granted for use by students enrolled full or part-time (at least three courses) in two- and four-year colleges and universities. Student must be a resident of the Pacific Southwest Chapter Area (San Diego, Las Vegas, Bakersfield, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria or Palm Springs). Students should intend to pursue a career in telecommunications and related fields. Amount of Award: $500.00 to $5,000 Since the inception of the Scholarship Program, the Chapter has awarded over $200,000 in grants to students preparing for television careers.

Requirements: * Applicants must be high school seniors, college undergraduates, or first-year graduate students who are pursuing careers in English or Spanish-language print, photo, broadcast, or online media. * See website for additional information

$8,000 four-year scholarship Ideal candidates have been a member of AQHA or AQHYA for at least one year and are pursuing a college degree in journalism or communications. Recipient must pursue a career in news, editorial or print journalism, photojournalism or a related field. Member must apply during their senior year of high school or while enrolled as a freshman at an accredited college or university. Recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to a four-year undergraduate degree program as specified above.
