Misti Torres Student Scholarship

The Lone Star Emmy Educational Foundation proudly offers a scholarship program for college students pursuing a career in the television industry in the memory of Misti Torres McCarty. Her lifelong passion revolved around education and opening career paths for students in the television profession. Torres was a television news producer in many Texas television markets as well as Miami, Florida. She also served as the Executive Director of the Lone Star EMMY chapter. The Misti Torres Student Scholarship will be awarded up to the amount of $2,500 each to qualified students chosen by our Scholarship Committee. The Foundation will annually review the amount of the scholarships. To be considered for a scholarship, a student must meet the following eligibility requirements: Student must be in good standing (not on academic probation) with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Student must be currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning in the State of Texas at a junior level or above. Undergraduate students must have two (2) academic semesters remaining when the scholarship is awarded or be enrolled in graduate school. Student must be majoring in Radio, Television, Film; Broadcast Journalism; or related major. Student must submit at least two letters of recommendation from faculty, employers or internship supervisor. Student must submit a 3 page essay responding to these questions. Why did you select the television industry as your career choice? In what television/related activities have you participated whether in school or outside of the classroom? What is your first job preference after college and why? What is your ultimate career goal?

Lone Star EMMY Educational Student Scholarship

The Lone Star EMMY Educational Foundation proudly offers an Educational Scholarship program to college students pursuing a career in the television industry. Lone Star EMMY will award scholarships of up to $2,500 each to qualified students chosen by our Scholarship Committee. The Foundation will annually review the amount of the scholarships. To be considered for a scholarship, a student must meet the following eligibility requirements: Student must be in good standing (not on academic probation) with a minimum 2.5 GPA. NATAS Lower Great Lakes Chapter Collegiate Scholarship

The $3,500 scholarship funded directly by our NATAS chapter members is offered to students who attend school anywhere in the membership area of our organization which includes Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Bowling Green, Toledo, Lima and Mansfield, Ohio; Erie, Pennsylvania; Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Bloomington, Lafayette, and Muncie, Indiana. Students must be attending college in our region to qualify. This scholarship goes to a student who will be a college junior or senior in the next academic year and who intends to pursue a career in television or television related field.

Wilma Smith Scholarship

This is a new scholarship created to honor longtime WJW anchor Wilma Smith who retired in May 2013, after a 35 year career in Cleveland broadcasting. The $2,500 award is funded by WJW Fox 8. It is designated for a female college student from the Cleveland market who is currently a second or third year student majoring in a television-related field.

DR. LYNNE BOYLE/JOHN SCHIMPF SCHOLARSHIP - Undergraduate/Graduate

A scholarship grant of $1000 is being offered to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student, majoring in broadcasting (or other designated television major) at an accredited college or university in the Michigan area. For consideration of this award, applicants must: Complete the online scholarship grant application. Write a personal statement. Letters of recommendation. Official copy of transcript. Film or video compilation of work.

DR. LYNNE BOYLE/JOHN SCHIMPF SCHOLARSHIP - High School Grant

A grant of $1000 is offered to a high school in the Michigan area to assist with equipment for broadcast or media classes. For consideration of this award, applicants must: Complete the online grant application. A brief personal statement. A letter from the principal Film or video compilation of work.

NATAS Mid-America College Undergraduate Scholarships

NATAS Mid-America is proud to offer scholarships to college undergraduates in the NATAS Mid-America region who are pursuing a career in the media industry. Scholarships range from $1000 to $3000 each. These are merit-based scholarships given to students who demonstrate the potential to join the profession and contribute to its future. Applicants do not need to be members of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to receive a scholarship. To apply for a NATAS Mid-America scholarship, simply complete the on-line application.

NATAS Mid-America High School Senior Scholarship

NATAS Mid-America is proud to offer scholarships to high school seniors in the NATAS Mid-America region who are pursuing a career in the media industry. Scholarships range from $1000 to $3000 each. These are merit-based scholarships given to students who demonstrate the potential to join the profession and contribute to its future. High School seniors who have taken media related course work at their schools and have been accepted at a college as a Media major are eligible to apply. Applicants do not need to be members of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to receive a scholarship. To apply for a NATAS Mid-America scholarship, simply complete the on-line application.

David J. Clarke Memorial Scholarship

Each year a scholarship grant of $3000 is offered to a full-time graduate or undergraduate student, majoring in broadcasting (or other designated television major) at an accredited college or university in the designated market area of stations serving the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The award will be given to a student who has achieved academic excellence; who is involved in co-curricular television activities (through student media, internships, or related employment); who possesses a desire to engage in television as a career; and who has high integrity and personal character. Financial need may also be considered. For consideration of this award, applicants must: Complete the online scholarship grant application; Write a personal statement; Submit 2 examples of creative work; Submit a resume; Provide an unofficial transcript of grades; Have a faculty member send a letter of recommendation directly to the scholarship chair; and Have an industry professional send a letter of recommendation directly to the scholarship chair.

NATAS Pacific Southwest Chapter Scholarship

The Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences encourages students preparing for careers in the industry through its scholarship program, which is open to students in television-related disciplines in area colleges and universities. Since the inception of the Scholarship Program, the Chapter has awarded over $281,000 in grants to students preparing for television careers. Scholarships are granted for use by undergraduate students enrolled in 9 units or more and graduate students enrolled in 6 units or more at two- or four-year colleges or universities for the coming Fall or Spring school year. Student must be a resident of the Pacific Southwest Chapter Area (San Diego, Las Vegas, Bakersfield, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria or Palm Springs) at the time of application. Students should intend to pursue a career in television and related fields. Although we are looking for students who are good scholars, evidence of creative achievement and demonstration of financial need is even more important. Annual scholarship recipients are announced in June, at the Emmy® Awards, for the following school year. Scholarships are awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to $5,000. Attendance at the Emmy® Awards is not mandatory for receipt of scholarship. Scholarships cannot be applied to coursework already completed.

Jerry Jensen Memorial Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Scholarship applicants: • must be actively engaged in a graduate-level curriculum in one or more areas of the television industry and be attending a college in Northern California (Visalia to the Oregon border), Hawaii, or Reno, Nevada; • be enrolled in a television graduate program; • have at least one one remaining year of graduate study for the graduate scholarship. Entrants may receive only one scholarship per year. Scholarship recipients are not eligible for a second scholarship in the year following their award.

Steve Davis Memorial Scholarship

To the outstanding undergraduate student (up to $3,000) ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Scholarship applicants: • must be actively engaged in a collegiate-level curriculum in one or more areas of the television industry and be attending a college in Northern California (Visalia to the Oregon border), Hawaii, or Reno, Nevada; • have completed at least one undergraduate academic year of television studies, • have at least one remaining year of undergraduate study for the undergraduate scholarships or one remaining year of graduate study for the graduate scholarship. Entrants may receive only one scholarship per year. Scholarship recipients are not eligible for a second scholarship in the year following their award. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Please specify which scholarship competition you are entering. Undergraduate students may apply for more than one scholarship, but you must submit a separate application form. The video entry must be specific to the category for which you are applying. Each application must include: 1) a completed scholarship application form; 2) a copy of your college transcript indicating your GPA and class standing (PDF); 3) a one-page essay summarizing your television academic and work experience, related activities and personal goals (Word or PDF); 4) a letter of recommendation from your dean or professor at your school explaining why you are a good candidate for an award plus the names of two faculty members we can contact for more information about your work.
