Media Specialist Scholarships

This award was created to honor former news director and Medstar executive Jacque Minnotte, who died in 1993. This fellowship recognizes excellence in health or medical television and radio reporting. RTNDF will award a $2,000 cash fellowship to a journalist in radio and television with fewer than 10 years of experience. In addition to the $2,000 award, winners of the Jacque I. Minnotte Health Reporting Fellowship are invited to attend the Excellence in Journalism conference. FELLOWSHIP APPLICANT CRITERIA: May only apply for one fellowship Past fellowship winners may not apply for a second RTDNF fellowship Must have fewer than 10 years as a professional journalist REQUIRED ITEMS FOR ALL APPLICATIONS: 1. A completed application form submitted online only. 2. A cover letter, submitted with the online application including these topics: Discuss your current and past journalism experience. Describe how you would use the funds if you were to receive the fellowship. Discuss your choice to pursue a career in electronic journalism. Include in your cover letter 3-5 links to your best and most relevant work samples to the scholarship for which you are applying. Work samples should be broadcast (television/radio) or online news pieces. Entrants are encouraged to upload their work samples to sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Sound Cloud and other platforms, then inlude links to these samples in the cover letter. Entrants are also encouraged to provide a link to their personal website, if this is available, or social media platforms if they are used professionally. Please discuss your role in each of the pieces (producer, editor, reporter, etc). 3. A letter of recommendation from your news manager, submitted with online application. If you are a news manager, include a letter from your general manager.

The MALDEF Law School Scholarship Program each year awards scholarships to deserving students entering their first, second, or third year of law school. The Univision - MALDEF Communications Scholarship Program each year awards scholarships to deserving students pursuing a graduate or professional degree in the communications and media fields (print and electronic), including entertainment or media law. Scholarships are awarded to students based upon three primary factors: (1) demonstrated commitment to work with the Latino community; (2) financial need; and (3) academic achievement.

Recipients must have been majoring in Information Networking and Telecommunications, with a Media Studies concentration, at least two semesters and have a 2.5 cumulative GPA, a 3.0 GPA in major. Transfer students studying in a comparable area are eligible under preceding criteria in their first semester.

The Pajwell Foundation Bachelor of Music in Composition for Visual Media Scholarship was created to honor and acknowledge exceptional MI students who can clearly articulate their professional goals in the music industry, and submit two original songs for visual media that they have either composed and/or produced, and/or arranged.

Program Description: In partnership with the McNamara Family Foundation, this program will provide financial resources to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full-time in a creative arts related field -media, film, performing arts, communications, writing, and others- to assist them in beginning and completing an art project. Grants will range from $5,000 to $20,000. Eligibility Requirements: Be of Hispanic heritage. Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired). Be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at a U.S. accredited college or university in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or U.S. Virgin Islands the upcoming academic year. Be majoring in the arts, including but not limited to media, film, performing arts, communications or writing. Have earned at least 12 undergraduate units or credits in a U.S. accredited college or university. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).

NPPA members provide support for this scholarship, especially members of the NPPF Booster Club made up of NPPA life members. The scholarship is for television photojournalism students. Open only to undergraduate students. Applicants must: •Be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. or Canada or have been accepted at a four-year institution to complete suspended studies. •Provide evidence of an aptitude for photojournalism as well as academic ability and financial need. •Provide grade point average as an indication that applicant can successfully complete college studies. Explain financial need. •Use the scholarship at the beginning of the next semester. Otherwise, it will be forfeited and awarded to an alternate candidate. •A letter of recommendation from a faculty member who knows your work is required.

This journalist scholarship program consists of one $2,500 scholarship, made payable directly to the winning student’s educational institute. The winning student must also be able to attend AWMF’s Gracies Awards Luncheon on June 22, 2015 in New York City to receive the scholarship. Female undergraduate and graduate students studying media, journalism, English, communications and related fields are encouraged to apply. Submission Requirements: Please submit a writing piece of 750 to 1,000 words, focusing on the theme Opening Doors to Opportunity for 25 Years. The piece should center on the accomplishments that have taken place since ADA passed in 1990 and the differences it has made in the lives of people with disabilities. The piece can be written in first or third person. If you have a personal connection to the subject matter, please indicate either within the essay or via cover sheet. Societal views, mobility, advocacy, etc.  What were some of the challenges that people with disabilities experienced?  What is it like now, 25 years later? What are the differences/advancements?  How have the views of Americans changed toward those with disabilities?
