Mechanical Engineering Scholarships

Program Description: The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) and General Motors (GM) have partnered to provide financial resources to assist outstanding Latinos pursuing degrees in Engineering and Business. The award amount is $2,500. Eligibility Requirements: Be of Hispanic heritage. Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired). Be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at a four-year U.S. accredited college or university in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or U.S. Virgin Islands for the upcoming academic year (enrollment is verified in the Fall). Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent). Be majoring in Engineering (electrical, industrial, manufacturing and mechanical) or Business (accounting, business administration, economics and finance). Must complete the GM Online Assessment (required of semifinalist only).

To be eligible for a scholarship from the Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship Fund: a) The applicant must be an American citizen not younger than 17 and not older than 35 on the date that the scholarship application is submitted. b) The applicant must be a female member or the daughter or granddaughter of a member of Sons of Norway, provided that such membership shall have been of at least three years duration on the date the application is submitted. c) THE APPLICANT MUST BE A FULL-TIME UNDERGRADUATE WHO HAS COMPLETED AT LEAST ONE TERM (QUARTER, SEMESTER) OF HER STUDIES AFTER BEING ACCEPTED AS A MAJOR EITHER IN CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS OR IN CHEMICAL, ELECTRICAL OR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING. THE GRANT IS INTENDED TO BE USED FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDY. d) The applicant must have attained a SAT score of at least 1800, a math score of 600 or better, or an ACT score of at least 26. HOW ARE THE WINNERS SELECTED? Final selection of the scholarship winners will be made by the Sons of Norway Foundation Scholarship Committee. The criteria for selection are: a) long-term career goals and clarity of study plan b) academic potential and evidence of ability to succeed c) letters of recommendation giving specific evidence of good character, eagerness and earnestness and ambition in the field of science and engineering. Note: Previous holding of the Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship gives priority to the applicant. Please include all items from the checklist in one envelope. Awarded once per renewal cycle. 1 @ $7,000 Renewable 5 yr. max. Open to Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior students. All Engineering majors. A few main eligibility points: Only women are eligible. You must be planning to study an ABET-accredited program in engineering, technology, or computing in the upcoming academic year. You must be planning to attend full time (exceptions are made for reentry and non-traditional applicants). You must not be fully funded for tuition, fees, and books and equivalent.

The WIA Foundation is pleased to provide scholarships to women interested in a career in the aerospace field to pursue higher education degrees in engineering, math or science. One or more awards will be given each year to a rising senior in college, to be applied during the upcoming academic year. To be eligible for the WIA Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must be interested in pursuing a career in the aerospace field and be a rising junior or senior working towards a bachelor’s degree in engineering, math or science. An applicant must have completed at least two and a half academic years of full-time college work at the time of application and must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States or its territories, and plan to be enrolled in the subsequent academic year. Each applicant must have a college grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must be female of any nationality.

The J.H. Fletcher & Co. Scholarship is awarded annually to one or more students pursuing an undergraduate degree in mining or minerals engineering, with a desire to use their skills to apply technology to improve safety and productivity in underground mining. Students pursuing degrees in mechanical or electrical engineering may also be considered if they are minoring in Mining Engineering or show a strong desire for a career in the underground mining industry. Fletcher Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria: 1. Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. 2. Be an SME student member in good standing. 3. Attend a school that is ABET accredited and/or has an SME Student Chapter. 4. Demonstrate a desire for and a probability of success in a career in underground mining. Scholarship is a renewable scholarship with total funding determined annually by the SME Foundation Scholarship Committee.

Purpose To provide an incentive to engineering undergraduate students enrolled in ABET accredited engineering programs to choose nondestructive testing and evaluation as their field of specialization. The Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship is a monetary award. Eligibility Undergraduate students enrolled in an engineering program of an ABET accredited university at the time the application is submitted for this scholarship. Each potential candidate for this award must show their anticipated graduation date to be later that the date the award funds are to be distributed. Each potential candidate must also show an active interest in the field of nondestructive testing and evaluation. Method of Selection The University Programs Committee selects up to three $3,000 scholarships each year, pending merit and number of submissions. Form of Award $3,000 in funding and Certificate in Walnut Frame Materials Submitted * Materials must now be submitted electronically. Completed application form – signed by the Administrative Officer (department head or chairman), or his/her designee, of the program in which candidate is enrolled. A one-year $3,000 scholarship available annually to an undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student enrolled full-time in a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of the Minnesota chapter and/or who has graduated from a high school in the chapter area. General Criteria: Available to full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that traditionally has been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession. Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30% and be enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution that meets one of the following: The institution hosts a recognized ASHRAE student branch or The program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Objectives Administered by the AIST Ohio Valley Member Chapter, available to students who are dependents of Ohio Valley Member Chapter members or to student members pursuing an education in engineering, metallurgy, physical science, computer technology or an engineering technology field.Awards – One or two US$1000 scholarships will be awarded. The scholarships are renewable for a total scholarship of four years at $1,000 per year.Eligibility – The student must be the child (including step-children, adopted children or wards) of a member in good standing of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the AIST or a Student member in good standing. The student must be accepted into, planning to attend, or currently enrolled in an eligible, full-time curriculum at an accredited university or college. Degrees eligible for the AIST scholarship include: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering / Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering / Sciences, Metallurgy, Physical Sciences, Computer Technology, Computer Programming, Information Systems Technology, Chemistry, Biology / Microbiology, Physics, Other Engineering-Related fields, or other related fields approved by the committee.

Criteria: All applicants must be seeking an associate's degree, bachelor's degree or graduate degree in manufacturing, mechanical, or industrial engineering, engineering technology, or industrial technology at an accredited public or private college or university in Kansas. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 point scale. When making the selection of recipients, the scholarship committee will give consideration to the following preferences: First preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are a child, grandchild, or relative of a current SME Wichita Chapter No. 52 member. Second preference will be given to scholarship applicants who reside within the state of Kansas. Third preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are planning to attend a college or university located in the state of Kansas
