The Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) Graduate Research STEM Fellowship Program provides fellowships of $5,000 in add-on support to graduate students to supplement and enhance basic research support. Applicants must be Student at NASA enrolled full-time in a program of study in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) and have a specific faculty-mentored research project that has NASA or aerospace relevance. The purpose of the VSGC Graduate STEM Rresearch Fellowship program is to encourage talented individuals to pursue careers in the aerospace industry that support NASA’s mission. Awardees will be required to certify through their academic department that basic research support of at least $5,000 in matching funds is also being provided before funds are released. These Fellowships are intended to enhance basic graduate support such as graduate research assistanships, graduate teaching assistanships, and non-federal scholarships and fellowships. Graduate Research Fellowships require that students participate in an active faculty-mentored research experience that aligns with the aerospace sector and meets NASA’s mission. Awards are made annually and are renewable for one year for students making satisfactory academic and research progress. This is a competitive fellowship program and awards are based on merit recognizing high academic achievement and promise. Each summer, Maryland Sea Grant’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program supports fifteen students to conduct marine research on the Chesapeake Bay. It’s a special opportunity to develop your research skills and interests by working with top scientists to study one of America’s most significant coastal resources. The REU program, funded by the National Science Foundation, is designed for students majoring in marine science, ecology, environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, and mathematics. During the 12-week program, each student works with a mentor on an individual research project at one of the two marine labs at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences located on the Chesapeake Bay. Research areas include: Estuarine processes Benthic environment Physical oceanography Contaminants Fisheries Molecular biology and genetics Environmental chemistry Submerged aquatic vegetation Modeling and analysis Coastal observing systems Each REU fellow will receive: A stipend of $6,000 Housing costs Round-trip travel expenses Eligibility Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and have completed at least two years of study towards (but not yet completed) a bachelor’s degree. Preference is given to students who are rising seniors. Students from underrepresented groups and institutions with limited research opportunities are especially encouraged to apply.

This program is open to students who have been or will be enrolled in any accredited institution within six months of the start of their fellowship. Institutional affiliation and citizenship restrictions may apply for some awards or facilities. It is expected that applicants will have completed one year of college by the start of their fellowship. Applicants will be reviewed on the basis of academic performance and class standing, career goals, recommendations, and compatibility of scientific interests and abilities with the needs and resources of the host facility. The fellowship term is normally eight to sixteen weeks. Renewals are competitive and require an updated application. A fellowship award includes placement on a project at a facility with a usual stipend of at least $300 per week, and may include an allowance for travel to and from the facility. Sponsors may augment the award and provide additional allowances for fellowships at the facility or on campus. Fellows will receive a certificate of participation at the end of their appointment. Participants are encouraged to seek academic credit at their home institution.

This program is open to master's and doctoral degree candidates enrolled in an accredited graduate program. Institutional affiliation and citizenship restrictions may apply for some awards or facilities. Applicants will be reviewed on the basis of academic performance, research potential, career goals, recommendations, and compatibility of scientific interests and proposed research with the resources of the host facility. The fellowship ranges from one to twelve months; non-thesis research applicants are generally placed for eight to sixteen weeks in the summer or for a semester. Renewals are competitive and require an updated application. Renewals beyond two years for master's candidates and three years for doctoral degree candidates will receive special review. A fellowship award may include a stipend of at least $1300 per month, tuition assistance, and an allowance for travel. Sponsors may augment the award and provide additional allowances for fellowships at the facility or on campus.

The NAFP is designed to enhance the professional development of NASA employees and the science and engineering faculty of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). To be eligible for the faculty fellowship, applicants must be US citizens, tenure-track faculty members at an HCBU, HSI, or TCU, and must hold a PhD or ScD (less than 10 years) in science, engineering or mathematics with expertise in NASA-related fields. To be eligible for the NASA employee fellowship, applicants must be full-time career employees at the GS-13 level or above.

Open to United States citizens who are members of one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Native Americans, Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian or Micronesian), and Puerto Ricans. Awards are made only for study in research-based doctoral programs (PhD or ScD) that lead to an academc career in teaching and research in the behavioral and social sciences, humanities, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, and life sciences. Intended for students who are at or near the beginning of their doctoral study. GRE General Test scores are required from tests taken since October 1, 1993. Awards will not be made for work leading to degrees in practice-based disciplines. Persons who have already earned a doctiral degree are not eligible to apply.

Open to United States citizens who are members of one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Native Americans, Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian or Micronesian), and Puerto Ricans. Dissertation Fellowship support is intended for the final year of dissertation writing. Applicants must have completed all requirements for their degree except for the writing of the dissertation including course work, examinations, language requirements, approval of the dissertation proposal/topic, and any other departmental and institutional requirements. Advisors must submit a valid Verification of Doctoral Degree Candidacy by February 14 to confirm that all such degree requirements have been met by that date. Awards not made for work leading to degrees in practice-based disciplines such as education, business, administration, management, health sciences, nursing, home economics, library science, speech pathology, audiology, personnel, guidance, social work, fine arts, or performing arts.

Open to United States citizens who are members of one or more of the following ethnic minority groups: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut), Native Americans, Black/African Americans, Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos, Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian or Micronesian), and Puerto Ricans. Awards for postdoctoral research are made in the behavioral and social sciences, humanities, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences and life sciences, education, and interdisciplinary programs composed of two or more eligible disciplines. Applicants may not have held their degree for more than seven years at time of application. Approximately 25 one-year felowships offered to scholars in an academic teaching and research career, or those planning such a career.

For African American graduating high school seniors with demonstrated financial need and pursuing a degree in the fields of bioscience, mathematics, engineering or physics. See website for deadline of application. Scholarship application is available every 1st of January.

Available to students residing in the foundation's service area who desire to continue their education in the field of mathematics and who demonstrate financial need. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a competitive process which considers financial need, academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, educational goals and personal aspirations. The community foundation's Board of Trustees has final approval of scholarship recommendations made by the foundation's Scholarship Committee or the advisory committees of certain scholarship funds. Scholarship amounts vary based on annual income available from each fund.

The Economic Club of Grand Rapids established a fund in 2000 to provide financial assistance to students pursuing study abroad in business. The Economic Club is an association of individuals interested in and contributing to the growing economic health of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area. One (or more) scholarships of up to $2000 will be awarded annually. The applicant must meet the following criteria: • Applicant must have sophomore or above standing at the time of application in an undergraduate business program or in a graduate level business program at any public college or university of their choice. Applicant must have a declared major in accounting, business administration, economics, managerial science (all areas), mathematics, computer science, engineering, marketing, or fields of study related to business or economics. • Applicant must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. • Applicant must be a resident of Kent, Allegan, Ottawa, or Muskegon counties for the prior three years or must be a resident student at a public college or university in the West Michigan area for the prior two years or more consecutively. • Foreign study programs must be endorsed and accepted as a part of or as a credit course in the applicant's degree granting college or university. Funds must be administered through the home college/university financial aid office. • The recipient may be asked to deliver a brief oral presentation to the Economic Club of Grand Rapids within six months of return to the United States.

Fund Purpose: Scholarships to students attending IWU, with preference given to students in the dept. of math and science. Fund Story: This scholarship fund was started by Donna Harvey Evans and Donald Harvey as memorial to the lives of their parents, Juanita and Warren Harvey. They prefer that the scholarship be given to IWU students in the Department of Math and Science.
