Editorial Internship
Interns work primarily with the Editorial & Youth Departments as pertains to the publishing and distribution of books, News Notes, and newspaper columns. Candidates have the opportunity to learn all aspects of communications and publishing in a hands-on, friendly atmosphere. This includes how material is created, printed, publicized and distributed. Duties include copyediting, fact checking, research and writing short pieces. Depending on the student’s writing ability, there may be the opportunity to have his or her work published by The Christophers. Other general office duties include filing, photocopying and data entry. Internship must be performed for course credit.QualificationsApplicant should be a currently enrolled sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate with a G.P.A of 2.5 or better. A liberal arts background with an interest in communications, publishing or the operations of nonprofit organizations is preferable. Applicants should be highly motivated with above-average writing ability. Writing samples will be requested. Proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Word are required.
Cal RTA #27
This $1,000 scholarship is available to students in the HSU credential programs during their student teaching year, including elementary, secondary and special education, and those in the Liberal Studies Elementary Education-Integrated program. Applicants must be a graduate of a public, private or charter high school in Humboldt or Del Norte counties or the Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District, or, if there no candidates from these schools or districts, then the award may be given to the most qualified candidate, meeting all other criteria. Application for financial aid needs to be on file in the Financial Aid Office by March 2. Applicants must a a senior or post baccalaureate during the year of the award. The Institute for Humane Studies Fellowships
Application Requirements/Description:The Institute for Humane Studies awards scholarships up to $12,000 for undergraduate or graduate study in the United States or abroad. Last year IHS awarded more than 90 scholarships to outstanding undergraduates, graduate students, law students, and professional students who are interested in the classical liberal tradition.Applications will be considered from those who:• will be full-time graduate students,or undergraduate students with junior or senior standing,• have a clearly demonstrated interest in the classical liberal/libertarian tradition of individual rights and market economies,and• are interested in applying the principles of this tradition in their work.Humane Studies Fellowships, begun in 1983 as Claude R.Lambe Fellowships,are awarded by the Institute for Humane Studies to support the work of outstanding students interested in the classical liberal/libertarian tradition.The core principles of this tradition include the recognition of individual rights and the dignity and worth of each individual;protection of these rights through the institutions of private property,contract,and the rule of law,and through freely evolved intermediary institutions;and voluntarism in all human relations,including the unhampered market mechanism in economic affairs and the goals of free trade,free migration,and peace.Awards are based on:• academic or professional performance,• relevance of one ’ work to the advancement of a free society,and• potential for success.
Thomas G. Labrecque Smart Start Scholarship Prgm
All residents of New York City who attend high schools in New York City's five boroughs are eligible. Students must plan to attend college in the fall immediately following graduation. Students must apply and be accepted to one of the ten colleges associated with Chase Smart Start Scholarship Program. Students in the program must major in one of the following fields of study: business, communications, education, engineering, liberal arts, social science or technology. Legal dependents of Chase employees are not eligible for the Smart Start Program, but continue to be eligible for Chase's scholarships for employee's children.
Lillian Ford Moffat Memorial Scholarship
The proceeds from this fund will create two $250 annual scholarships available to freshmen on a non-renewable basis. Qualifications of applicants: (1) high school graduate or equivalent; (2) academic promise; (3) citizenship and character; (4) desire to enter the field of liberal arts.
Denis Wong & Associates Scholarship
Minimum GPA 3.5
Pursuing undergraduate degree in liberal arts or science, or a graduate degree in a professional field
Demonstrate well-rounded and balanced record of achievement in preparation for career objectives
Submit two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, coaches or employers citing applicant’s credentials and potential for success
General criteria:
• Must be a classified undergraduate or graduate student
• Enrolled in a degree-seeking program, unless specifically noted
• Enrolled in a two- or four-year, accredited* college institution in Hawai`i or the continental U.S.
• Full-time status, unless specifically noted
• Demonstrate interest in Hawaiian language, culture, history
• Demonstrate a commitment to contribute to the greater community.
