Law Scholarships

Here are some of the Law scholarships on our site for which you may qualify.

Barbara A. Shacochis Scholarship

The recipient of this scholarship must be a member of the Law Review and is selected by a committee which has been designated by the donor, a 1990 alumna and Pepperdine Law Review editor-in-chief, and School of Law Board of Visitors member.

The Benjamin G. Shatz Scholarship

Awarded annually through the generosity of Benjamin G. Shatz (class of 1992) and assists second and third-year students with financial need and active membership with the Jewish Law Student Association.

Special Law School Scholarship

This scholarship is for law students with special financial needs.

The Honorable Raymond Thompson Endowed Scholarship

To qualified students on the basis of financial need and/or merit. Recipients are selected by the School of Law administration.

The Brian J. White Endowed Law Scholarship

To assist practicing Christians who are committed to pursuing a career in criminal defense. The student must actively worship with a congregation. A letter from his/her minister or priest should confirm such affiliation with a congregation. The student must demonstrate commitment to pursuing a career in criminal defense in the form of having a job; a job offer; or internship with a public or federal defender's office or with a private criminal defense practitioner. A letter of intent from an employer must verify the commitment.

Farzad Family Law Scholarship

Farzad Family Law is pleased to present their Annual Scholarship Program. The yearly winner will be awarded $1,500 based on academic achievement, writing skills, and community involvement.

Carlson Caspers 1L Diversity Scholarship Program

Carlson Caspers' Diversity Scholarship Program annually provides up to two $5,000 scholarships to prospective law students who are pursuing or who have obtained a degree in chemistry, physics, life sciences, pharmacy, engineering, or computer science and who are committed to practicing intellectual property law in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. Scholarship recipients will be considered for a paid internship at Carlson Caspers during the summer prior to entering law school and will be considered for a paid clerkship during the summers after their first and second years of law school.

The Catherine Sherburne-Thompson Endowed Scholarship Fund

It is named in memory of a 1956 School of Law graduate and its first female faculty member. This fund provides assistance to a part-time woman student in her third or fourth year.

Service Leadership Award

Award Amount: $2,000 Requirements: *Must be a HS senior or enrolled in a community college, university or vocational school and have at least a 2.5 GPA. *Must demonstrate a commitment to community service leadership. *Must be able to document voluntary community service completed (not mandated by school or other programs).

MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund)

Eligibility: First, Second, Third year Latino Law Student. Please look on web site for more information: www.maldef.org

Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA)-Scholarship Award

Award Amount: At least $2,000 Requirements: *Awards are given to Latino first or second year students in a J.D. program at an American Bar Association approved school. PRBA selects recipients based on financial need and academic promise.

Harry S. Truman Scholarships

Purpose: The Harry S Truman Foundation Scholarship Program gives college juniors interested in public service careers the opportunity to refine career goals and plan graduate studies by encouraging applicants to reflect on social issues and needs that they want to address. Programs Funded: Foundation Scholarships award up to $30,000 for graduate studies in the U.S. or abroad in public administration, public policy analysis, law, public health, international relations, government, economics, social services delivery, education, human resource development, conservation, environmental protection, and other relevant fields. Truman Scholars also participate in substantial summer leadership development programs in Washington, D.C.. Eligibility: Candidates are nominated by their colleges/universities. Nominees must be U.S citizens or nationals who are juniors in the upper quarter of the class, and who are committed to a career in public service. This may include employment in government at any level, uniformed services, public-interest organizations, nongovernmental research and/or educational organizations, public and private schools, and public service-oriented nonprofit organizations such as those whose primary purposes are to help needy or disadvantaged persons or to protect the environment. All majors are eligible. Selection Criteria: Screening focuses on the extent and quality of community service and government involvement, demonstrated commitment to careers in public service, academic performance, writing and analytical skills, leadership abilities, and the suitability of the nominee's proposed program of study for a career in public service. Application/Nomination Process: On-campus deadlines are normally in November. Interested students should begin work on their application well in advance, as the application requires several essays, including close analysis of a public policy issue. Pomona may nominate a limited number of students. One Scholar or more is selected from each state, and up to 30 additional Scholars are selected at large.
