ISF-ILLUME Scholarship

The Islamic Scholarship Fund offers a wide range of scholarships based on the fields and majors it supports. ISF also offers many joint scholarships with partner organization that share its common mission and vision. ISF is honored to work with ILLUME Magazine to host the ISF-ILLUME Scholarship. Recipients of this scholarship are encouraged to intern with ILLUME within one year of receiving this scholarship. Description and Eligibility: ISF accepts online applications once a year starting in December for a period of three months. Each Eligible Applicant Must Be: Muslim and active member of the Muslim Community; Attending a accredited university in the U.S.; Majoring in an ISF supported field of study; Maintaining a minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average; A Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S.; An undergraduate (junior/senior) or of graduate standing.

This scholarship is only open to journalism, education, religious studies, and public affairs students. Recipients of this scholarship are encouraged to intern with ING within one year of receiving this scholarship. Description and Eligibility: ISF accepts online applications once a year starting in December for a period of three months. Each Eligible Applicant Must Be: Muslim and active member of the Muslim Community; Attending an accredited university in the U.S.; Majoring in an ISF supported field of study; Maintaining a minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average; A Citizen or Permanent Resident of the U.S.; An undergraduate (junior/senior) or of graduate standing.

ISF-Syed Ibrahim Memorial Scholarship For Greater Boston

ISF is pleased to expand its activities to the Greater Boston Region through the ISF-Syed Ibrahim Memorial Scholarship initiated by the Syed family in memory of Syed Ibrahim. This scholarship is open to local residents of the Greater Boston region who upon graduation will remain or return to the region to play a prominent role in their local community through their activism and leadership, developing visionary ideas for the future of their community. In addition, ISF encourages its scholarship recipients to fulfill a volunteer service obligation through relevant internship programs within one year of receiving a scholarship under the direct supervision of ISF and its regional Strategic Partner the Islamic Society Boston Cultural Center, ISBCC. Description and Eligibility: ISF accepts online applications once a year starting in December for a period of three months. AP-Google Scholarship

The AP-Google Journalism and Technology Scholarship Program fosters new journalism skills in undergraduate and graduate students developing projects at the intersection of journalism and technology. Our goal: To shine a light on the hidden treasures in schools across the country — the digital-minded journalists who will be the future of our industry. The program is targeted to individual students creating innovative projects that further the ideals of digital journalism. A key goal is to promote geographic, gender and ethnic diversity, with an emphasis on rural and urban areas. Have you created original journalistic content with computer science elements? Are you thinking up new ways to tell a story with technology? Are you a “techie” who knows how to construct a journalistic story through multimedia? We’re looking for students pursuing studies at the crossroads of journalism, computer sciences and new media. If you’re on the cutting edge of digital media beyond the classroom, this scholarship is for you! Students from diverse backgrounds, as well as those attending rural-area institutions, are strongly encouraged to apply. A selected number of scholarships will be based on financial need. AWARD Six students will receive scholarship awards of $20,000 each. Half of the award will be granted in the first semester. The remainder will be awarded in the second semester upon proof of project proposal update and maintenance of a 3.0 GPA. Awards will be made payable to the post-secondary institution. Scholarship winners also will receive a one-year ONA membership and recognition at ONA’s annual conference. Applicants must meet the following requirements at the time of the application: Be a U.S. citizen Be a minimum of 18 years of age Be currently enrolled full time at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. (College graduates returning to school are eligible to apply and must provide an acceptance letter from graduate institution.) Have at least one year of full-time undergraduate or graduate study remaining Have minimum grade point average of 3.0 Be at least a college sophomore at time of application Be available for in-person or remote interviews with selection committee if selected as a finalist Please check website for updated deadline.

Marcia Silverman Minority Student Award

Award: $5,000 The scholarship check will be payable to the winner’s university for use on his or her behalf, and can only be used to directly fund the winner’s educational pursuits. This scholarship is made possible by the PRSA Foundation. Eligibility To apply, you must meet the following requirements: Be enrolled in a journalism program, public relations studies or courses preparing for a career in public relations. Be entering your senior year of undergraduate studies this fall. Have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Be of African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native American, Alaskan Native or Pacific Islander ancestry. Judging Criteria Your application will be judged using the following criteria: Academic achievement in public relations and overall studies. Demonstrated leadership on or off campus. Practical experience, e.g. internships, other work/service. Commitment to public relations, particularly as expressed in the candidate’s statement. Writing skills as demonstrated throughout the application. Letters of recommendation. Application This award application requires that you submit four typed copies of the following materials: An application form (Word or PDF) signed by both you and a faculty member or PRSSA Adviser. A letter of recommendation, no more than two pages, from either a faculty member or PRSSA Adviser. No more than two additional letters of recommendation from internship employers, educators or others. A one page résumé.

Stephen D. Pisinski Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,500 The check will be payable to the recipient’s university for the recipient’s use, and can only be used to fund educational pursuits. Eligibility To apply, you must meet the following requirements: Be a journalism, communications or public relations major. Be in your junior or senior year of college. Have at least a 3.3 overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Be a PRSSA member. Application You need to submit the following materials to apply for this award: A completed application form (Word or PDF). A résumé including academic honors, special projects, activities and work experience. An official transcript. An essay of 1,000 words or fewer stating your career goals. Two writing samples (in addition to the essay). Two letters of academic or professional recommendation. The writer should send the letter directly to PRSSA Headquarters. Make sure all materials are error free and thoroughly proofread. All application materials must be received at PRSSA Headquarters (not just postmarked). Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

John D. Graham Scholarship

Award: First place $3,000; two runners up $1,000 each The scholarship check will be payable to the winner’s university for use on his or her behalf, and can only be used to directly fund the winner’s educational pursuits. This scholarship is made possible by the PRSA Foundation. Eligibility You must be enrolled in a journalism program, public relations studies or courses preparing for a career in public relations, and entering your senior year of undergraduate studies in fall after the application deadline to apply for this scholarship. Judges will be looking for the following qualities: Academic achievement in public relations and overall studies. Demonstrated leadership. Practical experience in internships, other work/service. Commitment to public relations, particularly as expressed in the candidate’s statements in the application form. Writing skills demonstrated throughout the application form. Application To apply for this award, submit four copies of the following materials: The completed application form (Word or PDF), including signatures from you and a faculty member or PRSSA Adviser. A letter of recommendation, no more than two pages, from either a faculty member or PRSSA Adviser. No more than two additional letters of recommendation from internship employers, educators or others. A one page résumé.

Ron Culp Scholarship for Mentorship

Award: $1,000 This unique $1,000 scholarship is designed to honor a student entering his or her senior year at a four year accredited institution for their mentoring of others and their promotion of public relations as a career choice. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is nominated by the college or professional advisor of a Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America, or by one of his or her peers who can address the ways the nominee has helped others in their career and professional development, and how that individual has demonstrated their potential to be a strong mentor of others in their professional life. This award is not based on academic standing or courses taken. Ron Culp is a consultant and professional director of the graduate program in public relations and advertising at DePaul University. During his 30-year corporate career, Culp held senior public realtions positions at Ketchum, Eli Lilly, Pitney Bowes, Sara Lee and Sears, where he was senior vice president of public relations and government affairs. Culp's blog – www.culpwrit.com – provides career advice for individuals pursuing careers in public relations. He has made a grant to the PRSA Foundation to make this award available to a PRSSA student. This scholarship is made possible by the PRSA Foundation. The Nominee Must be entering his or her senior year in college in Fall Must be a major in public relations, journalism, or related fields Must be studying to prepare for a career in public relations Must be attending a four year accredited institution Must be in good standing as a member of a PRSSA Chapter Nomination Process Nomination must be made by someone other than the nominee who has first hand knowledge of the student’s mentoring capabilities and examples, in a letter of no more than two pages. Up to two additional letters of support for the nominee may be provided. Once identified, the nominator may involve the nominee to providing information needed to complete the nomination. A nomination form (Word or PDF) must be completed by the nominator. A resume for the nominee must be attached. Five sets of the completed nomination package must be provided. All material must arrive no later than close of business on June 13. Chester Burger Scholarship for Excellence in Public Relations

Award: $1,000 This scholarship was created to encourage graduate public relations students to pursue careers in corporate public relations, with the goal of making the public relations function more essential to the successful achievement of corporate goals consistent with the public interest, the precepts of sound business and the needs of key stakeholders. This scholarship is made possible by the PRSA Foundation; the Arthur W. Page Society; the Institute for Public Relations; and individual donors. Eligibility Candidates must be enrolled or continuing in a graduate studies degree program in public relations, journalism or related fields, effective fall. Candidates must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4. Candidates do not have to be a PRSSA member to apply. The award may be used at any U.S. college or university offering a graduate program in public relations or related field. Entries will be judged by a committee of three senior public relations professionals, each of whom will represent one of the three founding organizations for this award. Ofield Dukes Multicultural Student Award

Award: $1,000 The scholarship check will be payable to the winner’s university for use on his or her behalf, and can only be used to directly fund the winner’s educational pursuits. This scholarship is made possible by the PRSA Foundation with founding donors Prudential Financial and Weber-Shandwick. Eligibility To apply, you must meet the following requirements: Be enrolled in a journalism program, public relations studies or courses preparing for a career in public relations. Be entering your junior year of undergraduate studies this fall. Have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Demonstrate the commitment to service and social responsibility that Ofield Dukes personified Be of African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native American, Alaskan Native or Pacific Islander ancestry. Selection Criteria Applications will be judged by a committee of public relations professionals, using the following criteria: Academic achievement in public relations and overall studies Specific examples of commitment to service and social responsibility (demonstrated by mentoring others or participating in community service activities) OR specific examples of how you have worked to make the world a more equitable place. Writing skills as demonstrated throughout the application. Letters of recommendation from faculty and non-faculty. Awards or honors you have received for academic or extracurricular achievements (can include high school and community awards). A recommendation letter of no more than two pages from a faculty member or adviser. Robin M. Urbanski Memorial Scholarship

Award: $1,000 This scholarship is designed to honor a student for his/her mentoring of others and his/her commitment to public relations. The Nominee Must be entering his or her junior or senior year in college Must be a major in public relations, journalism, or a related field Must be studying to prepare for a career in public relations Must possess a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale Must be attending a four year accredited institution Must be in good standing as a member of a PRSSA Chapter Application Materials To apply, submit the following materials: Completed nomination form (Word or PDF) One recommendation letter made by someone other than the applicant who can address the ways the applicant has helped others in their career and professional development, and how that individual has demonstrated their potential to be a strong mentor of others in the field of public relations, in a letter of no more than two pages. Essay of no more than two pages, written by the applicant, explaining the applicant’s commitment to a public relations and a career in the industry Current resume Official academic transcript

Journalism or Communications Scholarship

$8,000 four-year scholarship Ideal candidates have been a member of AQHA or AQHYA for at least one year and are pursuing a college degree in journalism or communications. Recipient must pursue a career in news, editorial or print journalism, photojournalism or a related field. Member must apply during their senior year of high school or while enrolled as a freshman at an accredited college or university. Recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 grade point average. Current or previous AQHF scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive this scholarship. Funding for this scholarship will be applied to a four-year undergraduate degree program as specified above.
