NAHJ/Maria Elena Salinas Scholarship
$5,000 scholarships for students pursuing a career in Spanish-language broadcast journalism.
NAHJ/Mike and Maggie Rodriguez Scholarship
$5,000 scholarship for students pursuing a career in journalism in English or Spanish.
NAHJ/Soledad O’Brien Scholarship
$5,000 scholarship for students pursuing a career in journalism in English or Spanish.
NAHJ/Gannett Foundation Scholarships
$5,000 scholarships for NAHJ student members attending Florida International University.
NAHJ/Rubén Salazar Scholarships
2,000 scholarships or $1,000 — for students pursuing a career in journalism in English or Spanish and in any type of media.
International Foodservice Editorial Council Scholarship
The International Foodservice Editorial Council (IFEC) awards scholarships annually to students with experience and/or education in the combination of food/ foodservice and the communication arts.
Awards are intended to assist students planning to pursue careers as writers, editors, public relations practitioners, marketing communicators and similar within the food/ foodservice industries. This is a very specific niche. Students with questions about qualifications are encouraged to contact IFEC directly.
Students in good standing in a degree-granting program of a post-secondary institution whose studies and work experience combine the fields of food/ foodservice and the communication arts are considered eligible.
Awards range in amounts of from $1,500 – $6,000 and are dispersed in July of the award year.
The deadline for submitting an application is midnight PST on March 15th.

Bill King College Scholarship
The Oakland Athletics Community Fund will award one scholarship to an undergraduate student that is majoring in journalism or broadcasting. This $3,000 scholarship is intended for qualified tuition or required expenses such as fees, books, supplies and equipment for courses of instruction at a qualified educational institution. The recipient will possibly receive the opportunity to intern with the A's Broadcasting Department.This scholarship has been established in memory of Bill King, long-time legendary Bay Area Sports Announcer. The purpose of this scholarship is to support a student who plans to pursue a career in journalism or broadcasting.Student applicants must meet the following criteria: * Be a full-time student in your sophomore, junior, or senior year at a college or university in the San Francisco Bay Area. * Prove financial need, as evidenced by expenses and offset by other scholarships, loans, grants and other sources of supplemental aid. * Possess a minimum grade point average of 3.0. * Show a demonstrated strong interest in pursuing a career in broadcasting or journalism.
University Journalism Scholarships
The Ohio Newspapers Foundation will award three scholarships of $1,500 each to students who are enrolled in an Ohio college or university and majoring in journalism or an equivalent degree program. Applicants are not limited to, but preference will be given to students demonstrating a career commitment to newspaper journalism.Eligibility * Applicant must be enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior at an Ohio college or university. * A minimum grade point average of 2.5 (C+) is required. The student’s college transcript must accompany the application. * Application form must be typed or printed legibly by the applicant. (The application form on the reverse side may be photocopied). * Student must demonstrate the ability to write clearly in an autobiography of 750 to 1,000 words describing academic and career interests, awards, extracurricular activities and any journalism- related activities. Emphasis should be given to newspaper or print journalism. * Application must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation from college or university faculty members familiar with the student’s work and career interests. * Student should provide writing samples or articles that have been published.
Ohio Newspaper Women’s Scholarship
The Ohio Newspapers Foundation will award a $1,500 scholarship to a male or female student who is enrolled as a junior or senior in an Ohio college or university and majoring in journalism or an equivalent degree program.Eligibility * Applicant may be male or female and must be enrolled as a junior or senior at an Ohio college or university for the academic year.Include the Following With Your Application: * A recommendation from one college professor (non-journalism) and one college professor in the journalism or communications department. * A transcript of college grades * Three or four newspaper clippings demonstrating applicant’s writing skills. * Applicant’s answers to the following questions (limit of two typed, double-spaced pages per question):1. Who or what was your inspiration to get involved in the field of journalism and why did you select print journalism as your area of interest?2. Why do you need a scholarship? What do you think qualifies you for a scholarship?3. What do you hope to accomplish during your career as a professional journalist?
Roger Barry Award
Established in 1991 and named after the retired golf writer at the Patriot Ledger Newspapers in Quincy, this award is restricted to journalism or communications majors or students intending to pursue a career in those fields.To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must have completed at least two years service to golf as caddies, helpers in the pro shop, or course superintendent operations at a club in Massachusetts. The awards are "need-based" and assist with tuition at accredited undergraduate institutions.
Union Leader Charitable Fund, Inc. Loeb Educational Grant
William Loeb and Nackey Loeb, the late publishers of the Union Leader and New Hampshire Sunday News, loved New Hampshire and its young people’s spirit of independence. Strong advocates of independent journalism, the Loebs worked tirelessly to sustain the autonomy of New Hampshire’s largest daily newspaper.Each year, the Union Leader Charitable Fund, Inc. Board of Directors will award one $5,000 educational grant to a person who best exemplifies the Loebs’ spirit of independence and journalistic integrity.Educational grants are open to all individuals who meet the following criteria, regardless of age or educational status:- Have been New Hampshire residents for at least two years- Plan to attend a post-secondary education program- By June, have proof of acceptance and/or enrollment in the post-secondary program within one year of the award- Applicants must submit an essay, letter of recommendation, and transcript to be considered for the award.- This award is not based on financial need or grade point average, but rather on the applicant’s vision of journalistic integrity.
Newhouse Scholarship Program
Since 1994, Newhouse Newspapers has sponsored a scholarship program for print journalism students, administered by AAJA. While the scholarship program is open to all students, AAJA especially encourages students from historically underrepresented Asian Pacific American groups to apply, including Southeast Asian, South Asian, Korean, Filipino, and Pacific Islander. One four-year sustaining scholarship of $3,000 will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who declares journalism as his or her major. Students are generally selected based on the following criteria: - commitment to the field of journalism - sensitivity to Asian American issues as demonstrated by community involvement - journalistic ability - scholastic ability - financial need
