Information Technology Scholarships

The Kentucky Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) Scholarship is open to students from schools in Kentucky who have a passion for using technology skills to make a positive social change in the world or at home in their communities. In order to be considered for this scholarship, an applicant must currently be attending a rural high school as a senior in the state of Kentucky and be an active member of their schools STLP. Additionally, the student must also be planning to attend college to pursue a degree in a computer technology related field. This scholarship is awarded based upon answers to a series of essay questions that are designed to gauge the student’s passion for his or her intended career in computer technology as well as the student’s sense of citizenship and pride in their rural community.

The Executive Council of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) wishes to encourage academic excellence for students in the computing discipline. The UPE initiated this award with the IEEE Computer Society, as the largest association of computer professionals, to raise the importance of academic achievement in our future computer professionals. Up to four awards of $1,000 each are given each year to competition winners. Winners also receive a certificate of commendation, and a periodical subscription for one year. The UPE award criteria requires the same minimum grade point average that UPE membership requires, which is currently a minimum of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 is required. Deadline for submission is: October 31 of each year. Who is Eligible? All graduate and undergraduate students who are IEEE Computer Society members, and full-time students at an academic institution are eligible. Student winners of the Computer Society's Richard Merwin or UPE/CS award for the previous year (13 months) are not eligible. Criteria? Judging will be based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities related to the discipline of computing, and the letters of recommendation. How to Apply? IEEE Computer Society is offering $40,000 in student scholarships from $1,000 and up to recognize and reward active student volunteer leaders in student branches or chapters who show promise in their academic and professional efforts. This scholarship was created in honor of the late Richard E. Merwin, past president of the IEEE Computer Society, to recognize and reward student leadership. The selected winners of this award will have the opportunity to serve as IEEE Computer Society Student Ambassadors for the particular IEEE region to which they belong. Duties as Student Ambassadors will include collecting and disseminating information to student branches or chapters in their region and serving as a liaison between the IEEE Computer Society Member and Geographic Activities Board (MGAB) and student members in their region. Over a dozen scholarships of $1,000 and up are available, for one academic year (approximately 9 months). The Merwin Scholarship now has two application deadlines; Apr. 30th and Sep. 30th of each year (you may only apply once per year on either Apr. 30th and Sep. 30th). Who is Eligible? Graduate students, and those in the final two years of an undergraduate program in electrical or computer engineering, computer science, or a well-defined computer related field of engineering who are active members of a student branch or chapter are eligible. IEEE Computer Society membership is required. (Note: Students applying for the award should have a minimum one year in which to complete their degree, or be considering or enrolled to immediately start further study upon completion.) Applicants are required to have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 over 4.0 (or exam marks of at least 60%), and be a full-time student as defined by his or her academic institution during the course of the award. Scholarships of $5,000 will be awarded to full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major and currently enrolled in an accredited Historically Black College or University (HBCU) institution in the United States. Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with one of these institutions are eligible. Candidates must be at least second-year college students, enrolled full time as sophomores or juniors at the time of application. Scholarships of $3,000 will be awarded to full-time graduate students currently working toward a master's degree in an eligible major. Graduate students are not required to be enrolled in an HBCU institution. Distance-learning or online programs will not qualify. Eligibility: NOTE: Degree-seeking candidates must be U.S. citizens. Undergraduate students must be currently enrolled and attending either a two-year or four-year accredited HBCU institution in the United States. Students also may be enrolled in an accredited distance-learning or online degree program affiliated with one of these institutions. Candidates must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in an eligible major at accredited two- or four-year institutions in the United States. Distance-learning or online programs affiliated with a major U.S. institution are eligible. The AFCEA Disabled War Veterans Scholarships are funded by generous contributions from Microsoft employees with matching funds from Microsoft, the AFCEA Camp Pendleton Chapter, and the AFCEA Educational Foundation. Merit-based scholarships of varying amounts will be awarded to persons on active duty in the uniformed military services, to honorably discharged U.S. military veterans (including Reservists and National Guard personnel), and to disabled veterans who are currently enrolled part time or full time in an eligible degree program at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the U.S. Eligible candidates must be at least second-year college students enrolled full time as sophomores or juniors in four-year institutions at the time of application. Cyber Security Certification Scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to Young AFCEAN** candidates currently pursuing a certification such as those required by DOD 8570.01-M. Enrollment in an AFCEA Professional Development Center (PDC) Cyber Security course is eligible. **A Young AFCEAN is an AFCEA member under the age of 40. Eligibility: Applications are requested from qualified sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate students and graduate students enrolled full time in an eligible degree-granting program. Must be at least second-year student, regardless of academic hours accumulated. Applicants must be currently enrolled at the time of application in a two-year or four-year accredited college or university in the United States. Distance-learning programs are eligible. U.S. citizenship required. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. Candidates must be majoring in a field directly related to the support of U.S. cyber security enterprises with relevance to the mission of AFCEA such as cyber security, cyber attack, computer science, digital forensics, information technology, or electronic engineering.
