Must be a Health & Human Performance major who has completed at least 45 hours toward a degree and have a 2.5 GPA.

The Albert W. Dent Student Scholarship was established to: Provide financial aid and increase the enrollment of minority students in healthcare management graduate programs. Hersh Student Scholarship which provides two free registrations to the National Health Policy Conference (NHPC) and four free registrations to the Annual Research Meeting (ARM). I am not a past recipient of the AcademyHealth Alice S. Hersh Student Scholarship, the Public Health Systems Research Interest Group Student Scholarship, or the Aetna Foundation Minority Scholars Program. I have not previously attended AcademyHealth conferences. Florida Technical College (FTC) announced it has created a Healthcare Heroes Scholarship—a scholarship dedicated to eligible students enrolling in any of its Allied Health programs. The scholarship is available to all FTC campuses throughout the state. The Healthcare Heroes Scholarship offers a new incentive for students considering pursuing a career in the healthcare field. The Allied Health program offers an opportunity for students of all levels, from diploma to bachelor’s, to gain experience and skillsets for a variety of roles including administrative, clinical and management. “This pandemic has further emphasized the importance of our frontline healthcare workers and the essential role they play in our community,” said Florida Technical College President, Dr. James Michael Burkett. “FTC has created this scholarship to encourage members of our community who may have been on the fence in deciding to pursue a healthcare career, and hopefully, in light of the current situation, motivate them to make a difference.” The Allied Health program is offered throughout the state of Florida at the Orlando, Kissimmee, Lakeland, Deland, Cutler Bay and Pembroke Pines campuses. The program offers a variety of different levels including diplomas for Medical Assistant Technicians and Medical Billing and Coding Specialists, an Associate’s for a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist and a Bachelor’s in Allied Health Management. With over 2.5 million confirmed cases of the virus worldwide and over 27,000 in the state of Florida, now more than ever we recognize the importance of our frontline workers. The medical industry was already facing a global shortage in medical professionals, and the pandemic has simply brought light to that situation. FTC students interested in the Allied Health programs are encouraged to apply for the scholarship to assist with alleviating any financial concern in participating. The scholarship funds will be in the form of a retroactive disbursement of $600 per term up to the maximum amount awarded, not to exceed the amount of tuition and fees that was to be financed by debt and charged to the student for the applicable program, after first applying any other financial assistance.

Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors, undergraduates and students in graduate school. Current minimum grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 grade scale (excluding home school studies), and minimum SAT score of 1800 (combined math essay and verbal score) or ACT score of 28. Applicants must apply to and be accepted into an HBCU by July 1st. If you do not yet know which school you will attend, put your first choice. If you are awarded a scholarship you will need to submit proof of acceptance If you are an incoming student who has yet to enroll, you must submit proof of acceptance from schools of choice. Applicants must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service activities. Undergraduate Students Applicants must attend (or planning to attend) an accredited HBCU for the Fall 2015/Spring 2016 academic year (enrollment must begin in the Fall) with the intention of maintaining full-time status for the entire year. Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in the sciences with the intention of pursuing that discipline as a career. Current minimum grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 grade scale Applicants must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service activities. Graduate Students Graduate students must be enrolled in or must apply to and be accepted into a graduate school by July 1st. Applicants must be pursuing a graduate degree in the health and medical sciences with the intention of pursuing that discipline as a career. Applicants must be accepted or enrolled in an accredited graduate degree program in the United States for the Fall 2015/Spring 2016 academic year (enrollment must begin in the Fall). Current minimum grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 grade scale Applicants must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service activities.

A scholarship for students pursuing a health-related degree program. Areas of study that will be considered include, but are not limited to, counseling, social work, emergency medicine, pre-med, nursing, psychology (with a focus on addiction counseling or a substance-abuse related field).

The AcademyHealth Senior Scholars Program includes long- and short-term opportunities for senior leaders in the field of health services research to work ‘in residence’ at AcademyHealth’s, Washington, D.C. offices. Scholars experience first-hand on the role that health services research can play in informing national policy issues and gain access to policymakers, thought-leaders and AcademyHealth staff. The program has three goals: To provide an opportunity for the Senior Scholars to deepen their understanding of how health services research informs national policy; To bring new and innovative thinking and research to national policy discussions; and To increase interactions between AcademyHealth members and AcademyHealth staff in order to deepen their mutual understanding of key health issues and to help them better serve the field.
