Fine Arts Scholarships

Whether it’s playing an instrument, a physical talent, or any other special skill you have, we want to hear how it’s progressed throughout your life. We want to know who has helped you grow your skills and encouraged you to keep working on your ability. Tell us about how you’ve pushed yourself to get better and why. A $500 tuition scholarship will be awarded once a year to the winning submission.

Established by Shannon Bradford to provide scholarships to students pursuing further education in art studies.

Kodak realizes the importance of hands-on experience in film origination as part of a film school curriculum. That's why we work closely with faculty and provide KODAK Motion Picture Film to film schools around the world.For university or college students of film, film production, or cinematography at the undergraduate or graduate levels: BA, BS, BFA or MA, MS, MFA. Nominations must be made by school department or program official.

A limited number of scholarship awards are available for new students (entering freshmen or transfer students) The application period is March 2-31. The application will be available on March 1. Please submit a portfolio that includes 10-12 examples of your original artwork. You may submit original artworks (drawings, photos, etc.) or high-quality digital reproductions of original work; web portfolios or a CD portfolio of your artwork are acceptable. All portfolios will be returned. Also submit: • ACT scores • Transcript(s) of your grades • A letter of recommendation • An application letter that discusses your art interests and career plans New student application packets must be received no later than March 31, for scholarship award consideration. Applications missing any aspect of this process will not be considered. Mail application materials and portfolios to: Northern State University Attn: Art Department 1200 S Jay Street Aberdeen, SD 57401 Requirements for Recipients Art Department scholarship winners are expected to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in their major courses. If this standard is not met, the award is subject to withdrawal at the discretion of the Art Department faculty.

Spouses, dependent children, and grandchildren of blinded veterans are eligible for the annual Thomas H. Miller Awards to assist them with their higher education tuition. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit through an application process that is evaluated by a committee. Miller scholarships are for one year only but recipients can re-apply and receive the award up to four times. The blinded veteran family member is not required to be a BVA member for the spouse or child to receive a scholarship. Emphasis on music and fine arts for the Miller award.

Catherine W. Pierce scholarship was established to support students who are majoring in disciplines within the Arts and/or History. Mrs. Pierce had a great interest in helping deserving students pursue the fields of Art or History. The award amount is up to $5,000. To be eligible: Must be currently enrolled or will be enrolling in a recognized art program within the current calendar year. GPA may be submitted; however, the scholarship will be awarded based on creativity and not with a focus on GPA. Supporting materials include: Describe, in whatever medium you choose, the creative journey that has led you to submit this application. You may submit this description in written, oral or an art media form of your choice (JPEG, audio, YouTube video, etc.). If you choose to submit a media file, please upload to Youtube.com or any other video-sharing website, copy and post link in the 'Student Essay Questions' portion of the application process. Letter(s) of recommendation (optional) Current, official transcript (optional) Statement of annual household income or Student Aid Report (from FAFSA). Preference may be given to applicants based on financial need. Financial aid award letter(s) or other scholarship awards (if applicable) Applicants apply online.  Applicants must be a Hawai`i island, public high school graduate  Must be a declared art major to include, but not limited to focuses in art history, ceramics, drawing and painting, electronic arts, fiber, glass, graphic design, photography, printmaking, sculpture General criteria: • Must be a classified undergraduate student • Enrolled in a degree-seeking program, unless specifically noted • Enrolled in a two- or four-year, accredited* college institution in Hawai`i or the continental U.S. • Full-time status, unless specifically noted • Demonstrate interest in Hawaiian language, culture, history • Demonstrate a commitment to contribute to the greater community. *See website for accrediting bodies that are recognized by the Foundation.
