Environmental Science Scholarships

The Work/Learn Program offers undergraduate and beginning graduate students a unique opportunity to gain exposure to, and experience in environmental research. The program enables students to work on specific projects under the direction of the Center's professional staff and is tailored to provide the maximum educational benefit to each participant. Graduate students and certain advanced undergraduates may conduct independent projects with the approval of the staff member with whom they plan to study.

One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student working toward their first undergraduate degree and is enrolled in a program related to water resources for the upcoming academic year. The second $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a full-time graduate student enrolled in a program related to water resources for the upcoming academic year. In addition to the scholarships, each winner will receive a complimentary membership in AWRA. The undergraduate scholarship will be awarded to the student most qualified by academic performance. Measures of academic performance include the cumulative grade point average, relevance of the student's curriculum to water resources, and leadership in extracurricular activities related to water resources. The graduate scholarship will be awarded to the student most qualified by academic and/or research performance. The measures of academic performance are identical to those for the undergraduate scholarship with the addition of the quality of the student's research and its relevance to water resources. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the AWRA Student Activities Committee and announced during the summer.

To qualify, you must be a woman and have COMPLETED at least your first year in architecture; landscape architecture; civil, structural, mechanical or electrical engineering as related to architecture; urban and land planning; interior design; environmental design or architectural rendering and illustration. You must be attending a California school or be a California resident attending an out-of-state school. You must be enrolled for the ensuing year. A maximum of ten students will be chosen as finalists. They MUST APPEAR, at their own expense, for a mandatory interview in Los Angeles.

Candidates for the scholarship must be pursuing a Master of Science (M.S.) or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in a subsurface environmental science-related graduate program at an accredited university.

Eligibility Requirements To be considered for a scholarship through the ACS Scholars Program, candidates must: Be African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian Be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident Be a full-time student at a high school or accredited college, university, or community college Demonstrate high academic achievement in chemistry or science (Grade Point Average 3.0, "B" or better) Demonstrate financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) and the Student Aid Report (SAR) form Be a graduating high school senior or college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically-related science OR intending to or already pursuing a degree in chemical technology Be planning a career in the chemical sciences. Award Amounts The amount of each individual award depends upon the availability of funding, the number of scholarships awarded, and evidence of financial need. Scholarship recipients receive up to a maximum of $5,000 per year. Scholarship awards are renewable.

Preference to a sophomore student majoring in Chemistry with first preference for an emphasis in forensic or environmental chemistry.

Scholarship Amount: This scholarship includes tuition, fees, room & board, and all required books for the four years. In addition, the student will be given a laptop computer and printer at the start of their freshman year. Number Awarded: One per year Applicants must major in Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Botany, Biology (as it applies to horticulture/agriculture sciences), Forestry, Agronomy, Conservation, Plant Pathology, Environmental Concerns, City Planning and/or other allied subjects. (Approval must be granted by Colorado Garden Foundation for any major other than those specifically listed above.) Only Colorado residents can apply. The scholarship award will be for a maximum of four years. Must be an incoming freshman at a Colorado public college or university. This scholarship offered by Colorado Garden Foundation is a four-year scholarship available to an incoming freshman at a Colorado public college or university.

ELIGIBILITY: Pursuing a two- or four-year degree in agricultural engineering, mechanization, power and equipment, biochemistry, biological sciences, biotechnology, computer systems, environmental engineering and science, food packaging, food science and technology, pulp and paper technology, soil conservation or soil science. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must reside in Wisconsin, preferably in Brown, Calumet, Dane, Dodge, Door, Kewaunee, Marinette, Oconto or Outagamie counties. Preference given to applicants who plan to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Wisconsin-Platteville, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Engineering, Madison Area Technical College or Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.AWARD: Two scholarships at $1,000 each, non-renewable.

ELIGIBILITY: One scholarship to applicants pursuing a four-year degree in general agriculture, agricultural business management, agricultural engineering, agriculture power and equipment or soil or water conservation with preference to those specializing in irrigation and soil technology. Must be a resident of Arizona, California or Idaho. One scholarship to applicants pursuing a four-year degree in environmental engineering. Must be a resident of Illinois, Louisiana or Texas. All applicants must have completed freshman year and have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale required. Applicants will be considered on the basis of scholastic achievement, leadership skills, community involvement, then financial need. Recipients must be willing to provide a picture for publicity purposes and tour a Rain for Rent facility.AWARD: Two scholarships at $1,000 each, non-renewable.

Program Description:The HSF/Marathon Oil Corporation Scholarship Program is a scholarship of up to $15,000 per year. Selected students may receive up to $15,000 for two academic years for a possible total award of $30,000.In addition, scholars will be offered the opportunity to participate in a possible paid 8-10 week summer internship at various Marathon Oil Corporation locations. Scholars will also be paired with a Marathon Oil Corporation employee who will serve as a professional mentor.Eligibility Requirements: * Be of Hispanic American, African American, Asian Pacific Islander American, or American Indian/Alaskan Native heritage. * Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States with a valid Social Security Number at the time of application. All legal permanent residents must submit a copy of their valid permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551. * Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. * Be a current Sophomore majoring in Accounting, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Energy Management or Petroleum Land Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Finance, Geology, Geophysics, Geotechnical Engineering, Global Procurement or Supply Chain Management, Information Technology (IT/MIS), Marketing, Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or Transportation & Logistics. * Or be a current Senior planning to enroll in a Master's degree program in Geology or Geophysics. * Must apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
