Engineering Scholarships

Junior or Senior college student pursuing an undergraduate degree in a professional field that has direct applications in the passenger rail sector. General criteria for all scholarship applicants include having an interest in railway engineering, maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0, and being available for interview by the AREMA Scholarship Committee.

Student pursuing a four or five year Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science or Information Technology undergraduate degree program at an accredited institution who has demonstrated an interest in railroad Signaling and Communications. Priority is given to AREMA C&S Functional Group family members, including grandchildren. Attention all college-bound women! If you’re pursuing a career in computer science, information technology, management information systems, computer engineering, or another related field, Visionary Integration Professionals (VIP) would like to invite you to apply for our annual Women in Technology Scholarship (WITS) program. Please download the application for specific requirements. Now in its eighth year, the program has awarded nearly $100,000 in aid to more than 60 women across the country. WITS offers support for women who are attending or planning to attend a two- or four-year college within the United States for the upcoming school year. VIP awards multiple scholarships of up to $2,500 per recipient. First preference will be given to employees or child/spouse of an employee of an OPC member company. Secondary preference will be given to students seeking degrees in fields of study related to the steel industry, e.g., metallurgical engineering. Students must have a 3.0 GPA for university studies or a 2.5 GPA for a two-year technical school studies at the time of application.

The Cognizant Making the Future scholarship program recognizes today’s inspiration as tomorrow’s innovation. The goal of the scholarship program is to expand the pool of students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields who are encouraged “to be makers of things, not just consumers of things” as highlighted by President Obama at the National Academies of Science in 2009. Cognizant is committed to preparing the next generation with the skills they will need to be active participants in an environment that will become increasingly dominated by technology. This is a design-based scholarship and candidates will be required to submit documentation of a hands-on project that illustrates both creativity and innovation. The New York Hall of Science will serve as the Chair of the Selection Committee which will also include the Maker Education Collaborative, Cognizant and other organizations that support making initiatives. Criteria: Students are eligible to submit a project for consideration if they are:  Pursuing a career in a STEM field.  A citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States.  Eligible to enroll or currently enrolled at a two or four year accredited college or university with a full course of undergraduate study or a vocational-technical school.  A student in good academic standing with a minimum of a 2.5 grade point average. Amount: Award amounts are $5,000. The award will be payable to the institution earmarked for the account of the student. The award is non-transferable and the recipient may not receive cash. The Washington State Chapter of Women in Aviation, International offers a $1,500 scholarship for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education in memory of Yukiko Howell. Yukiko taught math, science, and Japanese language for many years at Annie Wright School in Tacoma, Washington. After obtaining her private pilot certificate, Yukiko taught weekly aviation lessons at her school, including the basics of flying. She advocated aviation in her lessons, emphasizing math and science proficiency as a means to achieve an exciting aviation career. She used her own flight training and experience to motivate her students, and she enlisted the help of aviation colleagues to complement her own stories. Yukiko happily volunteered for the Washington State Chapter's scholarship committee and at local education and outreach events, along with volunteering at WAI conferences, Sally Ride Science Festivals, and on the Museum of Flight Women Fly planning committee. In addition to all WAI requirements the applicant shall be pursuing higher education toward a STEM career or continuing education STEM classes, be enrolled in an accredited institution (including two- and four-year colleges, technical institutes, and certificate programs), have experience volunteering in STEM or aviation-related events and/or WAI activities in the previous year, and submit an essay that includes detailed explanations of the applicant's career plans, goals, and volunteer experiences. The scholarship must be used within one year of receipt and will be paid directly to an accredited program/institution. Funds may be applied to tuition, books, or laboratory fees. Funds may not be used for housing, transportation, flight training, meals, or incidental expenses. STEM careers include, but are not limited to, science, engineering, air traffic controller, avionics technician, dispatch certification, aircraft mechanic, meteorologist, or educator for STEM. Applicants must be a member of Women in Aviation, International by November 1, 2014, and may apply for no more than two scholarships. The Boeing Company will award a scholarship to a woman who wishes to advance her career in the aerospace industry in the fields of engineering, technology development, or management. The award is to be used for educational purposes only and may not be applied toward flight hours. Applicants may be full-time or part-time employees currently in the aerospace industry or a related field. Also eligible are students pursuing aviation- and aerospace-related degrees that are at the sophomore level with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). She worked for the FAA as an airworthiness aviation safety inspector, maintenance division, and was a member of the Washington State Chapter. The applicant shall be working toward a career in aviation, enrolled in an accredited aviation-related program, have experience volunteering at WAI events and/or aviation-related events in the previous year, and submit an essay that includes detailed explanations of the applicant's career path, goals, and volunteer experiences. It will be paid directly to an accredited program/institution and may be applied to tuition, books, specific training, or housing if the expense is arranged through an accredited program or institution. Aviation careers include, but are not limited to, air traffic controller, airport management, avionics technician, dispatcher, engineer, flight attendant, mechanic, meteorologist, navigator, and pilot. If the applicant has been working toward a career as a pilot, she/he must hold at least a private pilot certificate prior to submitting application. Each year, ACWA awards the $5,000 Clair Hill Scholarship to a qualified student in a water resources-related field of study. Eligible students must be California residents attending California colleges or universities full-time the entire academic year as a junior or senior beginning the fall semester after they are awarded the scholarship. Applications must be postmarked by FEB. 1 each year. Guidelines and Award Criteria for the Association of California Water Agencies Scholarship Award Each academic year the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) awards one Clair A. Hill scholarship in the amount of $5,000 to a qualified student in a water resources-related field of study. The guidelines and criteria for applying for the award are as follows: A. The scholarship will be known as the Clair A. Hill Scholarship. The scholarship funds associated with the award will be made available to the recipient at the beginning of each school year at the start of the fall term. B. The applicants who will be considered for the award must be California residents attending California schools. They should have completed their sophomore work and at the time of the award be full-time students in their junior or senior year. They must plan to attend school for the complete academic year. C. The award will be based not only on scholastic achievement, but also on the individual’s commitment and motivation to his / her chosen vocation. Financial need will also be given due consideration. D. The recipient should demonstrate commitment to the field of water resources by pursuing a degree related to, or identified with, engineering, agricultural and / or urban water supply, environmental studies or public administration. E. The top three candidates will be chosen by the Tehama Colusa Canal Authority scholarship committee upon receipt of a completed application form and at least two, but not more than three, recommendations for each candidate. ACWA’s Scholarship Subcommittee will select the final scholarship winner. F. The scholarship will be presented to the recipient’s school in a lump sum of $5,000. Actual payment will be made to the recipient by the school in accordance with regulations used at the selected school concerning such payment. G. Schools selected to participate will be chosen by ACWA’s Scholarship Subcommittee from a list of accredited schools located in California and recommended by the Association’s general membership.

Progressive Automations gives away $1,000 dollars each in scholarships to two engineering students each year. Our goal is to promote education in the field of engineering and make it more accessible to young students. Eligibility: - Applicants must write a 1,000 word essay detailing why you think you're best suited for the scholarship. Let us know about your academic achievements, your drive to succeed as an engineer, your passion for the field, your personal achievements, your educational expectations for the future and what you think the next ten years of your professional life will look like. - Applicants must be enrolled for the September semester, full-time at a recognized, Canadian or American post-secondary college or university. - Applications must be enrolled at the undergraduate level in an engineering program. - Applicants must have Canadian or American citizenship. - Applicants must demonstrate high academic performance by submitting a copy of their high-school transcripts. - Applicants must demonstrate financial need and be eligible to receive financial aid. - You are not eligible if you have already received the award in a previous year.
