Aerospace Undergraduate STEM Research Scholarship Program
The VSGC Undergraduate STEM Research Scholarship Program provides awards of up to $8,500 to rising juniors and seniors who are enrolled full-time in a program of study in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) and have a specific faculty-mentored research project that has NASA or aerospace relevance.
Awards are one-year, non-renewable scholarships. Students may apply for the following:
a $3,000 student stipend during the academic year and/or
a $3,500 stipend during summer (must be specified in application) plus,
$1,000 research allocation for materials and travel to support research activities conducted during the academic year and/or
$1,000 research allocation during the summer (if doing summer research).
The maximum award per year cannot exceed $8,500. This is a competitive scholarship program, funded by NASA and the Commonwealth of Virginia contributions, with the goals of:
Promoting undergraduate aerospace research while recognizing high academic achievement and promise
Increasing participation of underrepresented minorities, females and students with disabilities in aerospace-related careers
Implementing the goals of the Virginia Space Grant Consortium and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Eligibility:
Must be U.S. citizen
Must enrolled as a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours) at one of the five Virginia Space Grant Consortium member institutions
Must have completed at least two years of a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) undergraduate program and be classified as a junior or senior during the academic year (must have at least junior status by summer if choosing this option)
Must be in a program of study demonstrating an interest in aerospace or supporting NASA’s mission
Must have a grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Aerospace Graduate STEM Research Fellowship Program
The Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) Graduate Research STEM Fellowship Program provides fellowships of $5,000 in add-on support to graduate students to supplement and enhance basic research support. Applicants must be Student at NASA enrolled full-time in a program of study in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) and have a specific faculty-mentored research project that has NASA or aerospace relevance.
The purpose of the VSGC Graduate STEM Rresearch Fellowship program is to encourage talented individuals to pursue careers in the aerospace industry that support NASA’s mission. Awardees will be required to certify through their academic department that basic research support of at least $5,000 in matching funds is also being provided before funds are released. These Fellowships are intended to enhance basic graduate support such as graduate research assistanships, graduate teaching assistanships, and non-federal scholarships and fellowships.
Graduate Research Fellowships require that students participate in an active faculty-mentored research experience that aligns with the aerospace sector and meets NASA’s mission. Awards are made annually and are renewable for one year for students making satisfactory academic and research progress. This is a competitive fellowship program and awards are based on merit recognizing high academic achievement and promise.
Goals:
Encouraging undergraduate students in STEM and aerospace-related fields of study to continue to the graduate level
Promote graduate aerospace-related research, while recognizing high academic achievement and promise
Increasing participation of underrepresented minorities, females and students with disabilities in aerospace-related careers

William E. Weisel Scholarship Award
A. Scholarship applicants must be full-time students enrolled in a degree program in engineering or technology and seeking a career in robotics or automated systems. B. Scholarship applicants must have completed a minimum of 30 college credit hours and be seeking a career in manufacturing, robotics, or automated systems. (Graduate students will not be eligible for this scholarship.) C. Scholarship applicants must possess an overall minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. D. Students may submit a scholarship application in succeeding years. E. Scholarships will be limited to United States and Canadian citizens. F. Need is a consideration in awarding scholarships only when two or more applicants have equal qualifications. Additionally, the following items apply to each and every scholarship/fellowship program and are used by the review committee for evaluation: 1. Students from an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology/Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (ABET/CEAB) accredited program in Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or specifically stated programs are ordinarily given preference over those from 1) non-accredited programs or 2) those from other disciplines. 2. Students enrolled in industrial technology, industrial technical education, engineering management, manufacturing management, or who are in technician or machine operator programs are virtually always rejected unless stated in the individual announcement.
Anthony C. Fortunski, P.E. Memorial Grant
Preference is given to a student attending Lawrence Technological University, majoring in manufacturing engineering. Applicant should demonstrate an interest in general fields of manufacturing and industry. Applicants must: Be a member of an MSPE Student Chapter, if available on campus, or a State member-at-large. Be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Michigan. Be in an ABET accredited engineering program at a Michigan college or university. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Submit recommendations from at least two professors in the applicant's field of engineering study or appropriate math/science professor. Must specify academic and personal traits and extracurricular activities. Absence of these recommendations will disqualify the applicant. Demonstrate leadership and an interest in the engineering profession through involvement in school and/or outside activities.
Robert E. Folmsbee, P.E. Memorial Grant
This grant is awarded to a top ranking student interested in pursuing a career in construction engineering. Preference is given to a construction engineering student interested in general fields of construction engineering. Applicants must: Be a member of an MSPE Student Chapter, if available on campus, or a State member-at-large. Be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Michigan. Be in an ABET accredited engineering program at a Michigan college or university. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Submit recommendations from at least two professors in the applicant's field of engineering study or appropriate math/science professor. Must specify academic and personal traits and extracurricular activities. Absence of these recommendations will disqualify the applicant. Demonstrate leadership and an interest in the engineering profession through involvement in school and/or outside activities.
McNamee Porter & Seeley/University of Michigan Scholarship
Preference is given to a student in sanitary engineering, although any civil engineering student may qualify. MSPE will select the recipient with advice from the Chair of the Civil Engineering Department at the University. Applicants must: Be a member of an MSPE Student Chapter, if available on campus, or a State member-at-large. Be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Michigan. Be in an ABET accredited engineering program at a Michigan college or university. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Submit recommendations from at least two professors in the applicant's field of engineering study or appropriate math/science professor. Must specify academic and personal traits and extracurricular activities. Absence of these recommendations will disqualify the applicant. Demonstrate leadership and an interest in the engineering profession through involvement in school and/or outside activities.
MSPE Abrams Grant
This grant is available to a top ranking student interested in pursuing a career in civil or surveying engineering and enrolled in an ABET accredited program at a Michigan college or university. Applicants must: Be a member of an MSPE Student Chapter, if available on campus, or a State member-at-large. Be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Michigan. Be in an ABET accredited engineering program at a Michigan college or university. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Submit recommendations from at least two professors in the applicant's field of engineering study or appropriate math/science professor. Must specify academic and personal traits and extracurricular activities. Absence of these recommendations will disqualify the applicant. Demonstrate leadership and an interest in the engineering profession through involvement in school and/or outside activities.
MSPE Undesignated Grant
This grant is awarded to a top ranking student enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program at a Michigan college or university. The grant may be renewable for a second year with the approval of the MSPE Scholarship Trust. Renewal will be based on academic performance and approval of the Dean. Applicants must: Be a member of an MSPE Student Chapter, if available on campus, or a State member-at-large. Be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of Michigan. Be in an ABET accredited engineering program at a Michigan college or university. Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Submit recommendations from at least two professors in the applicant's field of engineering study or appropriate math/science professor. Must specify academic and personal traits and extracurricular activities. Absence of these recommendations will disqualify the applicant. Demonstrate leadership and an interest in the engineering profession through involvement in school and/or outside activities.
Sustaining Fellows Award
NACME Sustaining Fellows Awards provide up to $20,000 scholarship payable over four years. Undergraduate engineering students from underrepresented minority population groups may apply during their freshman year after completing one semester. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0. All applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
TMS J. Keith Brimacombe Presidential Scholarship
One $5,000 cash award scholarship will be made to an undergraduate student majoring in metallurgical engineering, materials science and engineering or minerals processing/extraction programs. In addition, a travel stipend of up to $1000 is also available for the recipient to attend the TMS Annual Meeting, to formally receive the scholarship. The recipient of the TMS Presidential Scholarship will be chosen by a specially-appointed selection committee of the TMS Student Affairs Committee of TMS. The following criteria will be assessed by the Scholarship Selection Committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: - Scholarship Application - Academic Achievement - Activities in and out of school, including work experience - Leadership - Personal Profile Statement - Letters of Recommendation Both North American and international students are eligible for this scholarship; however, all applicants must be TMS student members. Students not currently holding memberships may enclose with their scholarship entry a completed membership application, with dues payment, to become eligible. Applicants must be enrolled full time in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program at a qualified college or university. Relatives of members of the TMS Student Affairs Committee or of the funding committee/ division are not eligible.
International Symposium on Superalloys Scholarship
Two $2,000 cash award scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students majoring in metallurgy, materials science and engineering or materials processing/extraction programs. The recipients of these scholarships will be chosen by a specially appointed selection committee of the TMS Student Affairs Commitee and the International Symposium on Superalloys Organizing Committee. A $2,000 stipend will be awarded to each of the recipients at the TMS Fall Conference. Preference will be given to students pursuing a curriculum/career in superalloys. The following criteria will be assessed by the Scholarship Selection Committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: - Scholarship Application - Academic Achievement - Activities in and out of school, including work experience - Leadership - Personal Profile Statement - Letters of Recommendation All applicants must be TMS student members. Students not currently holding memberships may enclose with their scholarship entry a completed membership application, with dues payment, to become eligible. Students from any country are eligible. Applicants must be enrolled full time in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program at a qualified college or university. Relative of members of the TMS Student Affairs Committee or of the funding committee/ division are not eligible.
Structural Materials Division Scholarship
Two $2,500 scholarships are available to undergraduate students majoring in materials science and engineering or physical metallurgy. The recipients of the TMS/SMD Scholarship will be chosen by a specially-appointed selection committee of the TMS Student Affairs Committee. The scholarship recipient will be known as an SMD Scholar. A $2,500 stipend will be awarded to the recipients at the site of the TMS Annual Meeting. Additionally, the scholarship recipient will be given up to $500 for travel expenses to the TMS Annual Meeting to accept his/her award. Preference will be given to undergraduate applicants in their senior year, enrolled full time in an engineering program relating to the structure, property and processing of materials. The following criteria will be assessed by the Scholarship Selection Committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: - Scholarship Application - Academic Achievement - Activities in and out of school, including work experience - Leadership - Personal Profile Statement - Letters of Recommendation All applicants must be TMS student members.
