Engineering Scholarships

The purpose for this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to an engineering student pursuing a career in the application of the art of welding in civil and structural engineering. Eligibility The Arsham Amirikian Welding Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student pursuing a minimum four-year bachelors degree in civil engineering or welding related degree at an accredited university. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements. 1. Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age. 2. Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma or equivalent. 3. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average. 4. Proof of financial need is required to qualify. 5. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an accredited engineering school located within the United States 6. Applicant must submit all required application information. 7. Maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average throughout the academic year to apply for continued assistance in successive years. The maximum time allowed for financial aid under this grant is four years. The award will be presented to individuals nationwide. Applicant does not have to be a member of the American Welding Society. The AWS Foundation does not discriminate by age, race, color, national origin, disability, creed, or gender. Selection The recipient will be chosen by a Selection Committee comprised of five (5) members, selected by the Education Scholarship Committee. The Selection Committee will determine award recipient in February of each year. Recipient will be announced at the National Awards Luncheon. Awards One $2,500 award will be given annually. No recipient shall receive more than one AWS National Scholarship award per year. No awards will be paid to the recipient. All awards are for tuition and books only, and will be paid directly to the academic institution by the AWS Foundation.

The NDSEG Fellowship Program is open only to applicants who are citizens or nationals of the United States. Persons who hold permanent resident status are not eligible to apply. NDSEG Fellowships are intended for students at or near the beginning of their graduate studies in science or engineering. Applicants must receive or be on track to receive their baccalaureate degrees by the upcoming Fall. Preference to applicants pursuing doctoral study and research in aeronautical and astronautical engineering, biosciences (including toxicology), chemical engineering, chemistry, cognitive, neural and behavioral sciences, computer science, electrical engineering, geosciences, materials science and engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, naval architecture and ocean engineering, oceanography, and physics (includes optics). Recommended GPA is 3.0 and higher. Applications are encouraged from women, persons with disabilities and minorities, including ethnic minority groups such as American Indian, Black, Hispanic, Native Alaskan (Eskimo or Aleut) or Pacific Islander (Polynesian or Micronesian). NDSEG Fellows may choose as their fellowship institutions appropriate United States institutions of higher education offering advanced degrees in science or engineering. During part of their tenure, fellows may study or engage in research or field work away from their academic institutions if, in the judgment of the faculty, such arrangements further the fellow's education and contribute directly to the attainment of an advanced degree, and the fellow is officially enrolled and earning academic credit.

Must be a U.S. citizen attending a Hughes approved college or university studying engineering (EE, ME, SYS, AE), Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics. GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Master of Science Fellowship, Howard Hughes Doctoral Fellowship and Engineer Degree fellowship are awarded on a competitive basis to qualified individuals in Engineering Sciences. Most fellowships are awarded on a work-study basis.

Citizenship: Participants selected for support under the ONR Postdoctoral Fellowship Program must be citizens of the United States. Security Clearance: Participants must be eligible for a Department of Defense security clearance of Secret. In most cases, participants will be permitted to do research pending completion of the security clearance. All appointments are contingent upon Fellows obtaining the appropriate level of security clearance. Education and Experience: Before appointment, participants must present evidence of having received the Ph.D., Sc.D., or other earned doctoral degree recognized in U.S. academic circles as equivalent to the Ph.D. within seven years of the date of application, or must present acceptable evidence of having completed all formal academic requirements for one of these degrees. Prior Fellowships: A person who has received a prior postdoctoral fellowship at a navy laboratory under any program may not be eligible to participate in the ONR Postdoctoral Program at the same laboratory. Open to U.S. citizens applying for support for the last year of full-time or co-op undergraduate program or one year of full-time graduate study leading to a designated engineering or physical science degree in an accredited college or university. A scholarship will not be awarded to a doctoral candidate or to a person already having an advanced degree. Must demonstrate a genuine interest in a career in naval engineering, e.g., a student membership in a professional engineering society, extra-curricular engineering activities, etc. Selection criteria will be based on the candidate's academic record, work history, professional promise and interest in naval engineering, extra-curricular activities, and recommendations of college faculty, employers, and other character references. Financial need may also be considered.

Each year GM provides scholarships to students at a select number of colleges and universities nationwide. The scholarships are primarily awarded to students enrolled in engineering programs at these select schools.

This program serves as a tool to encourage members to continue to strive for academic excellence, while developing themselves through worthwhile organization and community involvement. The awards are given to approximately 75 students who have held high scholastic standards, dedicated service to the Society and other organizations, and who possess high professional promise. Of all applications received, now will be designated as the Mike Shinn Distinguished Fellow. Previous Fellow winners may only apply for the Mike Shinn Distinguished Fellow Award. Award recipients will be selected from a combination of the following criteria: University academic achievement, service to NSBE (local, regional, and/or national), and other professional, campus and community activities.

Open to all minorities who demonstrate financial need and who are enrolled or about to be enrolled full time in an engineering or science program. Preference is given to SHPE members, students who demonstrate high community and school involvement and high academic achievement.

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduates majoring in one of the programs offered by a School of Business or Engineering. To qualify, you must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and have completed at least 12 hours of credit in your major or school of concentration by the spring semester of your sophomore year. All applicants except freshmen and graduate students will be considered for this scholarship. Award recipients will be selected from a combination of the following criteria: University academic achievement, service to NSBE (local, regional, and/or national), and other professional, campus and community activities.

Applicants must be students accepted or enrolled in an institute of higher learning. Applicants must seek a major, and declare intention to pursue a professional career, in engineering, mathematics, or physical or biological sciences.

The selection process is designed to recruit all qualified candidates. Minorities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be enrolled as college or university students (in their junior or senior years, or in any graduate or postgraduate level) in the natural, physical, health, engineering, or social sciences in order to apply. Students enrolled in English, journalism, science journalism, or other non-technical fields are not eligible for these fellowships. Successful applicants will attend an orientation at AAAS headquarters at the start of the summer and a wrap-up session at the end of the summer. They will prepare reports on the progress of their fellowship throughout the summer.

The Community College Scholarship Program is open to students currently enrolled in a program of study at one of the Virginia community colleges. Students must be U.S. citizens and have completed at least the first semester of their degree program. Awards are generally made to full-time students (12 semester hours), but part-time students (6-9 hours) demonstrating academic merit are also eligible for the award. Students eligible for support can be enrolled in any community college program that includes coursework related to an understanding of or interest in technological fields supporting aerospace. This can include associates degrees related to math and science and AAA and AAS students in advanced technology fields such as, but not limited to, engineering, computers, electronics and industrial technology. Successful scholarship recipients shoudl have grade point averages of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Since an important purpose of this program is to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities, females, and the disabled in aerospace-related, high technology careers, the VSGC especially encourages applications from these students.
