Engineering Scholarships

The American Physical Society and IBM co-sponsor a research internship program for undergraduate women. The goal is to encourage women students to pursue graduate studies in science and engineering.Eligibility * Must be female with sophomore or junior standing at a U.S. college or university at the time of application * Must be majoring in chemistry, physics, materials science or engineering, computer science or engineering, chemical, electrical, mechanical engineering * Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA * No citizenship restriction.

# Program OutlineThe purpose of the SAE Doctoral Scholars Program, now in its 16th year, is to provide funding to assist and encourage promising engineering graduate students to pursue careers in teaching at the college level. The program is designed to help alleviate the increasing shortage of engineering college faculty by attracting qualified citizens of North America (United States, Canada, and Mexico) who are interested in pursuing teaching careers, through the promise of financial assistance during their doctoral study program.# Financial SupportOne or two new loans will be available each year. Loans are available in amounts up to $5,000 per year for three years, for a total of $15,000. The number of loans available will depend on the funding levels at the time of selection.# Eligibility & SelectionEligible candidates will be citizens of North America (U.S., Canada, Mexico), and must hold an undergraduate degree from an engineering program at a school having the undergraduate program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, the Canadian Accreditation Board, or its equivalent in Mexico. At the time of application, applicants must have been admitted to a doctoral program with the avowed purpose of teaching engineering at the college level upon graduation. Where one exists, applications must also be supported by the SAE Collegiate Chapter Faculty Advisor at the applicant's school.Selection will be administered by the Scholarship Committee. The committee will review the completed application, transcripts, a minimum of four professional references, and appropriate supporting material. Selection of applicants will be based on scholastic achievement, desire to teach engineering upon graduation, interest in the mobility technology field, and support of the SAE Collegiate Chapter Faculty Advisor where one exists.

Eligible applicants for Hertz Fellowships must be students of the applied physical, biological and engineering sciences who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States of America, and who are willing to morally commit to make their skills available to the United States in time of national emergency (see our Moral Commitment section).College seniors wishing to pursue the Ph.D. degree in any of the fields of particular interest to the Foundation, as well as graduate students already in the process of doing so, may apply.We screen Fellowship applicants for qualities the Foundation believes are essential ingredients of future professional accomplishment and/or reasonably reliable leading indicators of future professional success. These include:• Exceptional Intelligence and Creativitywith particular emphasis on those aspects pertinent to technical endeavors• Excellent Technical Educationevidenced not only by transcripts and reference reports from senior technical professionals, but also by the results of a personal, technical interview• Orientation and Commitment to the applications of the physical sciences as is typical of most applicants• Extraordinary Accomplishment in technical or related professional studies which may offset slightly lower academic records, or add luster to outstanding ones• Features of Temperament and Character conducive to high attainment as a technical professional the assessment of which is difficult, albeit important to the Foundation• Appropriate moral and ethical values of considerable interest to the Foundation in the furthering of our basic goals• Leverage what difference the award of the Hertz Fellowship is likely to make in the kind, quality, and/or personal creativity of the student's graduate researchWe do not support students pursuing advanced professional degrees other than the Ph.D., such as enrollees in M.D., LLD or MBA programs, although we will support the Ph.D. portion of a joint M.D./Ph.D. study program.

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate pursuing a minimum four-year degree in welding engineering at The Ohio State University. Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average. Financial need is not required to qualify. Electrical engineering candidates will be considered if there are no qualified welding engineering candidates. The applicant must be a citizen of the United States. One award for $3,000 is available. The application deadline is February 15, for the following fall term. Funding is available June 1 - May 31.

he ASDSO Scholarship Program, established in 1992, awards annual undergraduate scholarships to U.S. citizens enrolled in accredited programs in engineering or related fields and planning careers related to the design, construction, or operation of dams. Scholarships have ranged from $5,000 to $10,000 in recent years. Successful recipients must be U.S. citizens and enrolled full-time at the senior level during the following year's academic term in an accredited civil engineering program, or in a related field as determined by ASDSO, and must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in hydraulics, hydrology or geotechnical disciplines, or in another discipline related to the design, construction and operation of dams. Minimum Criteria Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 for the first three years of college and be recommended by their academic advisor. Basis for Award The basis for selection will generally follow these guidelines: Academic Scholarship Financial Need Work Experience/Activities Essay Announcement of successful candidates will be made in July of each year.

The purpose for this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to those individuals interested in pursuing a career in welding engineering. Eligibility The Edward J. Brady Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student pursuing a minimum four-year bachelors degree in welding engineering (WE) or welding engineering technology (WET); however, priority will be given to welding engineering (WE) students. All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements. Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age. Applicant must have a minimum high school diploma. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 overall grade point average. Applicant must provide a letter of reference indicating previous hands-on welding experience. Student may be enrolled full or part time. Proof of financial need is required to qualify. Applicant must submit all required application information. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and plan to attend an academic institution located within the United States. Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of four years. The award will be presented to individuals nationwide. Applicant does not have to be a member of the American Welding Society. The AWS Foundation does not discriminate by age, race, color, national origin, disability, creed, or gender. Selection Applicant will be chosen by the Named Scholarship Selection Committee comprised of five (5) members, which have been selected by the National Educational Scholarship Committee. Selection committee will determine award recipient in February of each year. Recipient will be announced at the National Awards Luncheon. Awards One $2,500 award will be given annually. No awards will be paid to the recipient. All awards are for tuition and books only, and will be paid directly to the academic institution by the AWS Foundation.

The American Society For Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Scholarship is dedicated to encourage students to pursue education in the areas of geospatial science or technology associated with remote sensing, photogrammetry, surveying and mapping. The applicant is required to be enrolled or anticipating to enroll in a United States university or institution in the field of geospatical science, surveying and mapping, or a related field. The applicant is required to submit with the application a list of all relevant courses taken, a statement of work experience including technical papers, special projects, internships, and courses taught that may reflect the student’s abilities in the field.Academic Disciplines/Professional Aspirations: Engineering/Technology; Surveying; Surveying Technology, Geographical Information Science, or Cartography.Award: This scholarship is for use during freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior years. This scholarship is not renewable. Number: The number of scholarships awarded is 1. Amount: The amount of the scholarship awarded is $1,000.Requirements for Eligibility: The applicant is required to be enrolled or anticipating to enroll at a four-year college or university. This scholarship is accessible only to citizens of the United States.Requirements for Application: Application, essay composition, school transcript, resume, and personal references. Purpose * The purpose of the Award is to encourage and commend college/university graduate students or post-doctoral researchers who display exceptional interest, desire, ability, and aptitude in the field of remote sensing or other related geospatial information technologies, and who have a special interest in developing practical uses of these technologies.Eligibility * The Award is made to a graduate student (Masters or Ph.D. level) currently enrolled or intending to enroll in a college or university in the United States or Canada, or a recently graduated (within three years of graduation) post-doctoral researcher, who is pursuing a program of study aimed at starting a professional career where expertise is required in remote sensing or other related geospatial information technologies.Award * The award consists of a certificate and a check in the amount of $5,000 and a one-year student or associate membership (new or renewal) in ASPRS. * The award is presented by the ASPRS Foundation from funds donated by students, associates, colleagues, and friends of Robert Colwell, one of the world's most respected leaders in remote sensing, a field that he stewarded from the interpretation of World War II aerial photographs to the advanced acquisition and analysis of many types of geospatial data from military and civilian satellite programs.ApplicationA current or beginning graduate student or post-doctoral researcher who wishes to be considered for the award must submit an application that includes the following items: * A listing of courses taken, and/or those to be taken, in remote sensing or other related geospatial information technologies, recognizing that instruction in remote sensing is often embedded in courses taught in many different disciplines. * An official transcript of all college/university level courses completed and grades received to demonstrate scholastic ability. * A listing of internships, special projects or work experience; technical papers, research reports or other documents; courses taught as a lecturer or teaching assistant; and presentations made that may support the applicant’s capabilities in this field. * Three letters of recommendation from faculty members or professionals having knowledge of the applicant’s capabilities (demonstrated or potential). * A statement, not to exceed 2 pages, detailing the applicant’s educational and/or research goals that relate to the advancement of remote sensing or other related geospatial information technologies and the applications of these technologies for mapping, monitoring and/or assessing land (including coastal) resources and helping solve land resource planning or management issues. (Note: Dr. Colwell’s research focused mostly on developing and demonstrating practical uses of remote sensing.)Award Selection * The Selection Committee evaluates each applicant, applying equal weight to each of the five items listed above. The applicant who, in the opinion of the majority of the Committee, has the highest overall ranking is designated as the winner.

Purpose * The purpose of the award is to encourage upper-division undergraduate and graduate-level college students to pursue a course of study in surveying and photogrammetry leading to a career in the geospatial mapping profession.Eligibility * Students currently enrolled or intending to enroll in a college or university in the United States or Canada, who are pursing a program of study in surveying or photogrammetry leading to a career in the geospatial mapping profession.Award * The award consists of a certificate and a check in the amount of $3,000 and a one-year student or associate membership (new or renewal) in ASPRS. * This award is presented by ASPRS, MAPPS (the Management Association of Private Photogrammetric Surveyors) and ACSM (the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping) through the ASPRS Foundation from funds donated by students, associates, colleagues, and friends of Frank Moffitt as a memorial to his lifetime contributions to the photogrammetric surveying profession.ApplicationAn upper-division undergraduate or graduate-level student who wishes to be considered for the award must submit an application that includes the following items: * A listing of courses taken, and/or those to be taken, in surveying and photogrammetry and other related geospatial information technologies, recognizing that instruction in remote sensing is often embedded in courses taught in many different disciplines. * A transcript of all college/university level courses completed and grades received to demonstrate scholastic ability. * A listing of internships, special projects or work experience; technical papers, research reports or other documents; courses taught as a lecturer or teaching assistant; and presentations made that may support the applicant’s capabilities in this field. * Two letters of recommendation from faculty members or professionals having knowledge of the applicant’s capabilities (demonstrated or potential). * A statement, not to exceed 2 pages, detailing the applicant’s educational and/or research goals that relate to the advancement of surveying and photogrammetry and other related geospatial information technologies and the applications of these technologies. Purpose * The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and commend college students who display exceptional interest, desire, ability, and aptitude to enter the profession of surveying, mapping, photogrammetry, or geospatial information and technology. In addition, the Scholarship recognizes students who excel at an aspect of the profession that Ken Osborn demonstrated so very well, that of communications and collaboration.Eligibility * The Scholarship is made to an under-graduate student currently enrolled or intending to enroll in a college or university in the United States, who is pursuing a program of study in preparation for entering the profession in the general area of surveying, mapping, photogrammetry, or geospatial information and technology.Award * This annual Scholarship consists of a certificate and a check in the amount of $2,000 and a one year student membership (new or renewal) in the Society. * This award is presented by the ASPRS Foundation, with funding provided by donations from friends and colleagues of Kenneth Osborn as a tribute to him.ApplicationA student who wishes to be considered for the Award must submit an application that includes the following items: * A listing of courses taken in surveying, mapping, photogrammetry, and geospatial information and technology and the academic grades received. * An official transcript of all college or university level courses completed and grades received to demonstrate scholastic ability. * Two letters of recommendation from faculty members or professionals having knowledge of the applicant’s capabilities (demonstrated or potential) as a professional in this field. * Papers, research reports, or other items produced by the applicant that may support the capabilities in this field. * A statement of work experience that may include internships, other forms of work experience, or special projects that demonstrate excellence in these fields and in communications and collaboration. The statement should include the nature, location and date(s) of the experience. * A statement, not to exceed 2 pages, detailing the applicant’s plans for continuing studies towards becoming a professional in surveying, mapping, photogrammetry, or geospatial information and technology.Award Selection * The Committee evaluates each application, applying equal weight to each of the items listed above.
