Engineering Scholarships

The Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research program has provided undergraduate and graduate students with valuable educational experiences since 1922. By encouraging close working relationships between students and mentors, the program promotes scientific excellence and achievement through hands-on learning. The program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering. Designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision related research. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site, or for purchase of non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project. While membership in Sigma Xi is not a requirement for applying for funding from the Grants-in-Aid of Research program, approximately 75% of funds are restricted for use by dues paying student members of Sigma Xi or students whose project advisor is a dues paying member of Sigma Xi. Students from any country are eligible to receive funding. Application Deadlines: March 15 and October 15 annually.

Purpose To provide an incentive to students currently enrolled in course work related to nondestructive testing (NDT) in a program of study learning to an undergraduate degree, an associate degree or a post-secondary certificate. The scholarship memorializes ASNT Past President, Honorary Member and Fellow Robert B. Oliver. Eligibility Students applying for the scholarship must be officially enrolled in an undergraduate degree, associate degree, or certificate program which includes studies in NDT. Method of Selection The Education Division of the Technical and Education Council awards up to three $2,500 scholarships each year to students who have submitted the most outstanding manuscript about NDT research, investigation or development (provided all applicants have met the established guidelines). Please note: Because the award may be made after the completion of studies, there is no requirement that the student use the funds for school expenses. Also, it is not necessary for an applicant to attend ASNT’s Annual Conference to be eligible for the Scholarship. Evaluation Criteria: Selection is based on creativity (10 points), content (50 points), format and readability (25 points) and the student’s hands-on involvement in the project (15 points) – totaling 100 points Form of Award $2,500 in funding and a Certificate in Walnut Frame Materials Submitted Completed application form – signed by applicant & school official (download form); All applications must be submitted electronically. Papers may be classroom assignments for work outside NDT, such as an English class. *Submission of a manuscript means that it has not been published elsewhere and that it will not be published elsewhere while under consideration by ASNT. Manuscripts from the scholarship winner will be copyrighted by ASNT and submitted for publication in Materials Evaluation, one of the Society’s technical journals. No payment is made for the use of articles. A complimentary copy of the journal containing published manuscripts is provided to the student. Details of manuscript submission are outlined below: The manuscript must be submitted as an electronic file. The manuscript must contain title, author and complete references. The manuscript is limited to 5,000 words and a maximum of ten illustrations. Photographs should be high resolution digital images. Photographs and line drawings, if submitted, must be original (not taken from a published source). The International System of Units or SI, the approved international metric system, is preferred for all measurement.

Purpose To provide an incentive to engineering undergraduate students enrolled in ABET accredited engineering programs to choose nondestructive testing and evaluation as their field of specialization. The Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship is a monetary award. Eligibility Undergraduate students enrolled in an engineering program of an ABET accredited university at the time the application is submitted for this scholarship. Each potential candidate for this award must show their anticipated graduation date to be later that the date the award funds are to be distributed. Each potential candidate must also show an active interest in the field of nondestructive testing and evaluation. Method of Selection The University Programs Committee selects up to three $3,000 scholarships each year, pending merit and number of submissions. A one-year $3,000 scholarship available annually to an undergraduate mechanical or architectural engineering student enrolled full-time in a post-secondary educational institution within the geographic boundaries of the Minnesota chapter and/or who has graduated from a high school in the chapter area. General Criteria: Available to full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that traditionally has been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession. Applicants must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30% and be enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution that meets one of the following: The institution hosts a recognized ASHRAE student branch or The program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Two one-year scholarships awarded $5,000 per semester. Scholarship was established by The Carrier Corporation in memory of its founder, who’s known widely for his numerous and significant contributions to establishing air conditioning as an industry. Available to full-time undergraduate engineering or pre-engineering students pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that traditionally has been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession. Conditions of Eligibility The applicant must be a U.S. citizen. The scholarship is open to seniors in high school through graduate students. The applicant must have the intention of pursuing a career in the STEM fields and plan to attend an accredited U.S. college or university to follow a course of study to pursue a career in the STEM field, with a preference for those with space related interests. The applicant can only use the $10,000.00 scholarship towards tuition for the next academic year. The applicant must not have previously spoken at the Robert H. Goddard Memorial Dinner. The applicant may apply for any of the scholarships offered by the National Space Club (Robert H. Goddard Memorial Scholarship, Olin E Teague Scholarship, Keynote Scholarship) in the same year, but may only win one in the same year.

ELIGIBILITY Nemetschek Vectorworks values the different backgrounds and experiences that comprise the next generation of designers. We strive to provide funding to as many students as possible through a variety of scholarship options; however, a limited number of scholarships are issued each year. The is designed to meet the needs and qualifications of a variety of students. At the time of submission, scholarship applicants must be: 1) enrolled or accepted for enrollment in undergraduate or graduate studies for six or more credits at an accredited college or university, and 2) pursuing a design-oriented degree. Such degrees include, but are not limited to, architecture, engineering, construction, environmental design, urban design, urban planning, interior design, graphic design, landscape architecture, landscape design, lighting design, industrial design, machine design, theater design, scenic design, event planning, exhibit design, and woodworking.

Students who study environmental science, biology, engineering, or a related physical sciences major make up the majority of the college graduates who go on to become the foremost experts in environmental testing, both in the lab and the field, and developers of new technologies for the trade. Recognizing the industry’s need for dedicated individuals with a high-quality education, our Founder, Robert Weitz, has committed to providing scholarship opportunities for those seeking careers in science and environmental inspection. The RTK Scholars Program provides up to a $1,000 scholarship to qualifying applicants. Award Type: Outside Scholarship Award Amount: $1,000, $500, and $250 Award Format: Essay writing competition to be judged by RTK founder Robert Weitz and a panel of environmental inspectors and experts Number of Awards: Up to 3 per school year Submission Deadline: May 15th and September 15th each calendar year Eligibility Requirements Must be enrolled in a participating accredited school, college, or university; Must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 (Please attach a PDF copy of your unofficial transcript for verification); Must be a high school senior, or college freshman, sophomore, or junior; Must be majoring in or planning to major in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, or Engineering; Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal resident.
