The Nebraska Section established the Colonel Theodore A. Leisen Memorial and Training Endowment Fund in 1993 to encourage water industry professionals to obtain additional training and encourage graduate students to choose the water industry as their field of work. To help with expenses for any training seminar or workshop, including the Nebraska Section AWWA Annual Fall Conference. The section awards three $500 scholarships at its annual fall conference. The Missouri Section American Water Works Association has established a scholarship fund entitled the J. R. Popalisky Scholarship Fund (JRPSF) for qualified students enrolled in an accredited college or university in the State of Missouri. Qualifying curriculum for the scholarship applicants includes courses related to civil or environmental engineering or environmental science with emphasis on career fields associated with water supply. The JRPSF will consider applications for one or more scholarships per year in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000). The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage enrollment in educational studies related to career fields associated with water supply.

PURPOSE: The Michigan Section American Water Works Association Raymond J. Faust Scholarship was established to promote the pursuit of advanced education by water utility employees, a goal which commemorates the water supply career of Raymond J. Faust with the State of Michigan and the American Water Works Association. ELIGIBILITY: All Michigan water utility employees and their dependents are eligible, as well as individuals pursuing a water utility career. The scholarship award is based on demonstrated dedication to the water supply industry and to the pursuit of a college or associate degree in the drinking water field. Applicants will not be evaluated on financial need, but must be a member of the Michigan Section American Water Works Association. AMOUNT: The Association intends to provide one or more scholarship(s) annually. The annual award amount is determined by the interest earned from the scholarship endowment. The American Galvanizers Association’s (AGA) Galvanize the Future: An Edgar K Schutz Memorial Scholarship essay contest was developed to assist future specifiers with the rising cost of a college education. The scholarship is available to full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in an accredited college or university in North America studying architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or a related field. Three scholarships are awarded annually ($2,500; $1,500; and $1,000) for the top essays submitted. Any full- or part-time, undergraduate or graduate student of any age enrolled at an accredited college or university only in North America. High school students are not eligible to enter this contest. Qualifying majors include architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, construction management, material science, or other related field.

The Mining and Metallurgical Society of America and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration Foundation offer one significant scholarship (MMSA/SMEF Scholarship) on an annual basis to an outstanding student whose study program encompasses any aspect of the extractive minerals industry. The scholarship will be awarded to a student whose study program is directed toward: a. Mining or geological engineering. b. Metallurgy, metallurgical engineering, or chemical engineering as related to metal recovery. c. Mining or mineral exploration geology. d. Environmental science or engineering as related to mining activities. Applicant Qualifications: MMSA/SMEF Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria: 1. Have completed at least three years of undergraduate studies with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50. 2. Be an SME student member in good standing. 3. Attend a school that is ABET-accredited and/or has an SME student chapter. 4. Demonstrate a desire for and a probability of success in a career in the minerals industry. The Mining & Exploration (M&E) Division of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration annually awards scholarships to promising college students who have chosen as a career path the field of mining engineering. Applicants must be majoring in mining, geology or other field of specialization covered by the M&E Division’s technical unit committees (Environmental Control & Reclamation, Geochemistry, Geology, Geomechanics, Geophysics, Hydrology, Open Pit Mining, Operations Research, Solution Mining, Underground Mining and Underground Ventilation). The Eugene P. Pfleider Memorial Scholarship is administered by the Mining & Exploration Division and is awarded on an annual basis to students pursuing careers in mining engineering. Two $2,500 scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students in their sophomore or junior years, who are majoring in metallurgical and/or materials science and engineering with an emphasis on manufacturing from product design to production, integrating process control technology into manufacturing, and basic and applied research into key materials technologies that impact manufacturing processes. Additionally, each recipient receives up to $500 for travel expenses to attend the meeting and luncheon to accept the award. Recipients are known as MPMD Scholars. ELIGIBILITY AND JUDGING REQUIREMENTS The applicant must be a student member of Material Advantage. Applicants must be undergraduate sophomores or junior unless otherwise noted. Applicants must be enrolled full time in a metallurgical/materials science engineering program at a qualified college or university. Relatives of members of the funding committee/division are not eligible. Submitted coursework must be relevant to the scholarship for which the student is applying. The Fuels and Petrochemicals Division of AICHE (F&PD) is pleased to sponsor two $1,000 one-time awards to exemplary high school seniors who plan on studying engineering or science. F&PD is committed to introducing high school students to careers in Fuels & Petrochemicals through its programs, helping to fuel the industry’s need for top talent in the future. Award: Two $1000 awards. Presentation: The award is presented at the Fuels and Petrochemicals Division Annual Award Luncheon at the AIChE Spring National Meeting. Eligibility: Eligible applicants are graduating high school seniors with exemplary academic records and demonstrated leadership potential. Eligible applicants must plan to attend an accredited four year university in the fall and plan to major in engineering or science. Applicants must be sponsored by a member of F&PD. Members can sponsor up to two applicants a year. College acceptance letters and proof of registration must be presented to F&PD’s scholarship panel prior to disbursement of awards. Essay- Applicant must submit an original, typed, single-sided, double-spaced essay which discusses a current event in regards to Fuels & Petrochemicals Industry and shares the applicant’s thoughts (i.e. gas prices, alternative fuel sources, carbon credits, plant safety, ethanol, etc.) Essays should be no more than 1000 words in length. Letter of Reference- Applicant must submit one letter of reference from a high school or community leader which discusses the applicant’s scholastic ability, character and/or leadership characteristics. Sponsorship Letter – Applicants must submit a sponsorship letter from a practicing engineer or scientist. The letter should state why this applicant is being sponsored.
