Elementary Teaching Scholarships
Here are some of the Elementary Teaching scholarships on our site for which you may qualify.
Laura M. Schroeder Memorial Scholarship
Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in early childhood education or kindergarten/primary education; demonstrated financial need; a great desire to work with children; minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Margaret Griner Hoffmann Scholarship
Recipient(s) shall be an undergraduate or graduate student who is majoring in elementary education; undergraduate recipient(s) can be a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or transfer student; preference will be given to a student with demonstrated financial need, however both merit and need shall be factors used to select a recipient; renewable at the discretion of the Department of Elementary Education providing the student meets the above stated criteria.
Virginia M. Gray Scholarship
Recipients shall be committed to the field of Elementary Education; demonstrated an intellectual ability, academic achievement, and high personal standards.
Hallie Conrad Boals Scholarship
Student majoring in Elementary Education; renewable at the discretion of the scholarship selection committee.
William Jennings Casey Transition to Teaching Scholarship
Students with demonstrated financial need; students majoring in elementary education; two scholarships shall be awarded each year, one student for the fall semester and to a different student for the spring semester.
Wind Early Childhood Scholarship
Students majoring in Early Childhood; demonstrated financial need; two scholarships shall be awarded each year.
Child Care Provider Scholarship
ELIGIBLE MAJORSChild development program or early childhood education program.ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSYou and your parents (if you are a dependent student) must be Maryland residents. You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time (12+ credits per semester) or part-time (6-11 credits per semester), degree-seeking undergraduate. Audited courses cannot be used to reach the minimum credit hours required for full-time or part-time status. You must enroll in a child development program or an early childhood education program. You may only attend part-time if you are working at least 15 hours a week at a child care or family day care center.FINANCIAL NEEDThis award is not based on need.AWARD AMOUNTFOR RENEWALS ONLY. An award for full-time attendance at a community college is $1,000 per year; a part-time award is $500 per year. An award for full-time attendance at a four-year institution is $2,000 per year; a part-time award is $1,000 per year. The total dollar amount of all State awards may not exceed your cost of attendance as determined by your school’s financial aid office or $19,000, whichever is less. Funds may not be available to award all eligible students.RENEWING AN AWARDYour award may be renewed if you maintain satisfactory academic progress at the college you attend, maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA, and remain enrolled in an approved program. You and your parents must also remain Maryland residents. The award may be renewed for up to an additional three years.SERVICE OBLIGATIONYou must agree to complete an education program in early childhood education or child development and be employed as a director or senior staff member of a licensed Maryland child care center or as a family day care provider in Maryland on a full-time basis one year for each year, or portion thereof, you receive the award.NOTE: Teaching in a public school in Maryland will not fulfill the service requirement, nor will teaching as a kindergarten teacher. You must begin employment within six months of your graduation. If you do not meet your service obligation, your scholarship must be repaid with interest. If you hold this scholarship with any other award requiring a service obligation, you must perform your service in consecutive years.
Distinguished Scholar Teacher Education Award
ELIGIBLE MAJORSAn approved teacher education program.ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSYou and your parents (if you are a dependent student) must be Maryland residents. You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time (12+ credits per semester), degree-seeking undergraduate student. Audited courses cannot be used to reach the minimum credit hours required for full-time status. You must enroll in an approved teacher education program. Applicants planning to teach in a critical shortage area receive priority; remaining applicants are ranked on the basis of GPA by class standing.FINANCIAL NEEDThis award is not based on need.AWARD AMOUNTThe award is $3,000 each year. This program is competitive. Students who are not funded initially will be placed on a waiting list. Funds may not be available to award all eligible students. The total dollar amount of all State awards may not exceed your cost of attendance as determined by your school’s financial aid office or $19,000, whichever is less.RENEWING AN AWARDYour award is renewed automatically if you and your parents are Maryland residents, retain your Distinguished Scholar award, maintain an annual, minimum 3.0 GPA, and remain enrolled full-time at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university in an approved teacher education program. Your parents must also remain Maryland residents. The award may be renewed for an additional three years of full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate study.SERVICE OBLIGATIONYou must agree to work as a full-time classroom teacher in a Maryland public school, one year for each year of the award, or repay the scholarship with interest. If you fail to remain eligible for a Distinguished Scholar award, you must still fulfill the obligations of the Distinguished Scholar Teacher Education promissory note. You must begin the service obligation within nine (9) months of graduation. If you hold this scholarship with any other award requiring a service obligation, you must perform your service in consecutive years.
Sharon Christa McAuliffe Memorial Teacher Education Award
ELIGIBLE MAJORSAn approved teacher education program.ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSYou and your parents (if you are a dependent student) must be Maryland residents. You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time (12+ credits per semester) or part-time (6-11 credits per semester), degree-seeking undergraduate student or full-time (9+ credits per semester) or part-time (6-8 credits per semester), degree-seeking graduate student. Audited courses cannot be used to reach the minimum credit hours required for full-time or part-time status. You must enroll in an approved teacher education program in a critical shortage field.FINANCIAL NEEDThis award is not based on need.AWARD AMOUNTRENEWALS ONLY. The award amount will be based on your enrollment and housing status. The dollar amount of this award may not exceed $18,052. The total amount of all State awards combined may not exceed your cost of attendance as determined by your school’s financial aid office or $19,000, whichever is less. Funds may not be available to award all eligible students.RENEWING AN AWARDRENEWALS ONLY. Your award may be renewed if you maintain a minimum annual 3.0 GPA and remain enrolled part-time or full-time at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university in an approved teacher education program. You and your parents must also remain Maryland residents. The award may be received for a total of two years.SERVICE OBLIGATIONYou must agree to work as a full-time classroom teacher in a Maryland public school in the critical shortage area you have chosen, one year for each year of the award, or repay the scholarship with interest. You must begin the service obligation within twelve (12) months of graduation. If you hold this scholarship with any other award requiring a service obligation, you must perform your service in consecutive years.
Cal RTA #27
This $1,000 scholarship is available to students in the HSU credential programs during their student teaching year, including elementary, secondary and special education, and those in the Liberal Studies Elementary Education-Integrated program. Applicants must be a graduate of a public, private or charter high school in Humboldt or Del Norte counties or the Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District, or, if there no candidates from these schools or districts, then the award may be given to the most qualified candidate, meeting all other criteria. Application for financial aid needs to be on file in the Financial Aid Office by March 2. Applicants must a a senior or post baccalaureate during the year of the award. Johnnie Lee Stewart Marks Scholarship Endowment
Worthy men and women who are enrolled in the School of Education at Campbell University. Preference may be given to those students preparing to work with early childhood students.
Mathematics Course Work Scholarships for Grades PreK-5 Teachers
The purpose of this grant is to provide financial support for improving teachers’ understanding of mathematics by completing course work in mathematics. Scholarships with a maximum of $2,000 each will be awarded to persons currently teaching at the grades PreK–5 level. Primary emphasis is placed on appropriate mathematics content courses. Mathematics education courses may also qualify if a suitable rationale is furnished by the applicant. Proposals must address the following: rationale for the coursework, anticipated instructional improvements and expected impact on student learning outcomes.The applicant must (1) be a current Full Individual or E-Member of NCTM or teach at a school with a current NCTM PreK–8 school membership; (2) have taught school mathematics for at least three years; and (3) intend to remain in teaching. No person(s) may receive more than one award administered by the Mathematics Education Trust in the same academic year. Past recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to reapply.
