Harry S. Truman Scholarship
The mission of the scholarship foundation is to find and recognize college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service; and provide them with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service.
Harry S. Truman Scholarships
Purpose: The Harry S Truman Foundation Scholarship Program gives college juniors interested in public service careers the opportunity to refine career goals and plan graduate studies by encouraging applicants to reflect on social issues and needs that they want to address. Programs Funded: Foundation Scholarships award up to $30,000 for graduate studies in the U.S. or abroad in public administration, public policy analysis, law, public health, international relations, government, economics, social services delivery, education, human resource development, conservation, environmental protection, and other relevant fields. Truman Scholars also participate in substantial summer leadership development programs in Washington, D.C.. Eligibility: Candidates are nominated by their colleges/universities. Nominees must be U.S citizens or nationals who are juniors in the upper quarter of the class, and who are committed to a career in public service. This may include employment in government at any level, uniformed services, public-interest organizations, nongovernmental research and/or educational organizations, public and private schools, and public service-oriented nonprofit organizations such as those whose primary purposes are to help needy or disadvantaged persons or to protect the environment. All majors are eligible. Selection Criteria: Screening focuses on the extent and quality of community service and government involvement, demonstrated commitment to careers in public service, academic performance, writing and analytical skills, leadership abilities, and the suitability of the nominee's proposed program of study for a career in public service. Application/Nomination Process: On-campus deadlines are normally in November. Interested students should begin work on their application well in advance, as the application requires several essays, including close analysis of a public policy issue. Pomona may nominate a limited number of students. One Scholar or more is selected from each state, and up to 30 additional Scholars are selected at large.
The Renshaw Fellowship
The Renshaw Fellowship Program supports the study and shaping of school curricula by providing grants to those seeking to become superintendents; curriculum developers; or influential scholars teaching, writing, and lecturing on educational issues.
Each Renshaw Fellowship recipient receives a $12,000 grant.
Eligibility:
The Renshaw Fellowship is granted to current doctoral students or applicants to doctoral programs in education.
Applicants must be members of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.
Graduate Fellowship applicants must engage in graduate studies for the purpose of teaching at the college level or seeking to become a superintendent or curriculum developer.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, who will be enrolled in a full-time graduate program.
Those attending pre-professional (medical, law, divinity, business, etc.) schools are ineligible.
Applicants may apply for more than one fellowship in any given academic cycle. For each fellowship sought, applicants must submit separate copies of all components of the application.
Required Application Materials
An original, five- to ten-page essay responding to the following question: What role do educators have in maintaining a free society?

Three- to five-page personal, philosophical, and professional autobiography
Five- to ten-page academic writing sample
Three academic letters of recommendation (Must be sent by the recommender and include the Graduate Fellowships Program Letter of Recommendation Form)
Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work (May be mailed by the issuing institution or the applicant)
Brief responses to the following four questions:
Why the applicant has chosen teaching as a profession
Why the applicant desires a fellowship
How the applicant heard about the ISI Fellowship Program
Signed declaration of intent to teach
Personal philosophical statement and academic writing samples must be 12 point standard font and double spaced.
Stevenson Scholarship
Amount: $200 - $400 (can reapply each year) Description: This scholarship is available to members of First United Methodist Church who are working toward professions in areas that will benefit people and the environment: education, medicine, environmental, seminary, social service, etc.
Roothbert Fund Scholarships
Eligibility: Roothbert Fund scholarships are open to all in the United States regardless of sex, age, color, nationality or religious background. While the Fund does not emphasize any particular form of religious practice or worship, it seeks to provide support to persons motivated by spiritual values. The Fund has awarded grants to persons entering a wide range of careers. However, preference will be given to those who can satisfy high scholastic requirements and are considering careers in education. USF Dissertation Fellowship Program
Members of one of the following groups: African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, or American Indians, and are U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents. Candidates must have completed all course work leading to the doctorate and must be considering a career in college teaching in one of the following fields: Business (Family Business, Sustainable Organizations); Education (Educational Philosophy and Foundations, Research Methods, Higher Education and Student Affairs); English; Chemistry; History (African American, California, Islamic World, 18th-19th Century Europe); Information Systems; Mathematics; Nursing (Adult Surgical Nursing); Organizational Development/Behavior; Philosophy; Public Administration; or Theology and Religious Studies. Pending funding, the Program provides a stipend of $32,000 and limited support for relocation and research-related expenses. The University of San Francisco invites applications from underrepresented scholars for the USF Dissertation Fellowship Program. Program: Scholars complete the dissertation and initiate an ongoing program of scholarly or creative work, and become familiar with the usual service responsibilities of a university faculty member. Scholars teach one course in the discipline each semester and serve the University in various capacities. Additional support includes office space, computer and library privileges. The University of San Francisco is a Jesuit Catholic University founded in 1855 to educate leaders who will fashion a more humane and just world. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to work in a culturally diverse environment and to contribute to the mission of the University. Application: Applicants should submit a letter of application (indicating area of expertise), curriculum vitae, transcripts, dissertation prospectus or proposal and timeline, brief description of research plans, evidence of teaching ability (including student evaluations), and three letters of recommendation.
Nina Ribak-Rosenthal Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Must be accepted into School Counseling Program (PPS or M. Ed.)• GPA of 3.00 for at least 60 units completed• May be part-time or full-time• Essay required on the following subject: “Consider today’s world and the social, political, economic, and/or environmental issues/concerns. Discuss one issue which you consider to be poorly and/or unjustly handled. To what are you opposed? What do you suggest as a solution? How would you implement your idea?”
Buddy Iwata Scholarship
Eligibility: Education Major • Enrolled in the Multiple Subjects Credential Program GPA: 3.00
California Retired Teachers Assn. Stanislaus - Division 38 Scholarship
Eligibility: Education Major • Acceptance into the Teacher Credential Program• U.S. Citizen and legal resident of California GPA: 3.00
Dr. Jack A. Graves Scholarship
Eligibility: Major: Education • Senior or 5th-year student standing• Financial need required• Plan to teach at elementary school level• Must have completed (or be currently enrolled in) a majority of teacher education coursework• Currently enrolled in the Multiple-Subject Teacher Credential Program• U.S. citizen and legal resident of California• Statement of objectives to outline personal and career goals stating reason for applicant’s choice to work with K-6th grade children• 3 letters of recommendation (CSU Stanislaus faculty, advisor, and teacher familiar with applicant’s volunteer work) GPA: 3.25
Dean Guzman Wagner Scholarship
Eligibility: Education Major • Statement of Objectives to include an explanation of applicants commitment toward diversity• At least one letter of recommendation from a CSU faculty member or advisor at CSU Stanislaus• Preference will be given to students with financial need GPA: 3.00
