Health Professions Education Scholarship

Students who are enrolled or accepted into Dentist, Dental Hygienists, Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives, and Physician Assistant programs.An awardee may receive up to $10,000 for this scholarship. An awardee commits to work full-time or 32 hours per week after graduating with a degree for a two-year service obligation practicing direct patient care in a medically underserved area (MUA) in California.You must be both a permanent resident of California and U.S. citizen in order to apply for all programs administered by the Health Professions Education Foundation.To be eligible for this program, students must be seeking one of the following health profession occupations:? Dentistry? Dental Hygiene? Nurse Practitiodner? Physician Assistant? Certified Nurse MidwiferyScholarships are available to students who are enrolled or accepted in an accredited professional program. Priority will be given to students who will graduate within one (1) to two (2) years. Awardees must sign a contract with the office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD)/Health Professions Education Foundation and agree to the following:? Be a full-time or part-time student (no less than six (6) units) in a California accredited school.? Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 each year scholarship funds are sought.? Upon graduating, complete a two (2) year service obligation to practice in a medically underserved area of California as a Health Professional providing full-time (32 hours per week or its equivalent) direct patient care.NOTE: Scholarship recipients may be awarded up to two (2) times which carries a two (2) year service obligation for each award.

Regeneron Science Talent Search

Regeneron STS is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science research competition for high school students. The purpose of the Health Professions Education Scholarship Program is to increase the number of dentists, dental hygienists, nurse practitioners, certified midwives, and physician assistants who are practicing direct patient care in medically underserved areas of California. Scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in these specialties who have demonstrated financial need. Eligible applicants may receive up to $10,000 per year, and would have a service obligation of 2 years. This program is made possible by a grant from the Vitamin Cases Consumer Settlement Fund.

Health Professions Education Loan Repayment Program

The purpose of the Health Professions Education Loan Repayment Program is to increase the number of dentists, dental hygienists, nurse practitioners, certified midwives, and physician assistants who are practicing direct patient care in medically underserved areas of California. Loan repayments are awarded to practitioners who are employed or who have a tentative offer of full-time employment in a medically underserved area of California to repay governmental or commercial loans incurred while pursuing their professional education. Eligible applicants may receive up to $20,000 over a two-year period, and would have a service obligation of 2 years. This program is made possible by a grant from the Vitamin Cases Consumer Settlement Fund.

American School Health Association Scholarships

To provide financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students interested in preparing for a career in school health. Amount Awarded: $500 Number Awarded: 3 each year. Duration: 1 year. Eligibility: Applicants must be full-time students majoring in one of the following areas: school health education, school nursing, or pediatric or adolescent medicine/dentistry. Other specialties are also considered if the application is accompanied by a letter from the academic advisor on official letterhead describing the academic program's preparation for the specialization. Applicants are required to be juniors or seniors in college or to be graduate students. They must have earned at least a 3.0 GPA. Financial need is not considered in the selection process. Additional Information: Recipients are also given a 3-year complimentary student membership in the association. .

Dr. George Blue Spruce Fellowship

In 2006, the Dr. George Blue Spruce Fellowship will be awarded to an American Indian/Alaska Native graduate student studying dentistry. Eligibility: Be an enrolled member of a United States federally-recognized American Indian tribe or Alaska Native group or possess one-fourth degree Indian blood from a federally-recognized tribe. Be enrolled full-time in a Masters, doctoral or professional degree program at an accredited college or university, within the United States. Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) from the United States Department of Education and the office of the university you plan to attend. Application Procedure: Note: Application for the Dr. George Blue Spruce Fellowship additionally provides eligibility for other AIGC-administered graduate/professional awards, especially the AIGC Fellowship. The possibility of an applicant being granted multiple awards by AIGC also exists, especially as regards smaller-amount awards. You need only complete one application. The DDSRank Dental Scholarship is awarded to one aspiring dental student to help them pay for the cost of tuition or books.

Ardis/Lueder Northern Lower Michigan Endowed Scholarship Fund

Ardis/Lueder Northern Lower Michigan Endowed Scholarship Fund shall be used to support a student in a recognized dental program at the School of Dentistry at the University of Michigan. Preference may be granted to a student who is from, or demonstrates an interest in practicing in the Northern Lower Michigan counties of Wexford, Missaukee, or Osceola. Priority will be given to students in a post-graduate program. If no qualified applicants are available in a given year, graduate students may be considered pending fund assets. Preference would then be given to fourth and third year graduate students in descending order. Preference will be given to residents of Northern Lower Michigan counties.
