Health Professions Scholarship Program
Must be a student entering the junior year of college who is under the age of 35 with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Offered to African-American, Hispanic, American Indian, and Asian students. Must be a U.S. citizen attending an AMA, ADA, or AOA accredited medical, dental, or optometry school.
Schwartz Award
The American College of Legal Medicine has an annual Student Writing Competition in which $1,000 cash awards are made for the outstanding original paper on Legal Medicine. All papers submitted will receive consideration for publication in the Journal of Legal Medicine or other medical legal publications. Applicant Criteria 1. Authors must be currently enrolled in an accredited law, medical, podiatry, nursing, dental school, or program of health science or health care administration school in the United States or Canada. 2. No paper which has been previously published in any form will be considered. What is Legal Medicine Legal medicine is the professional and academic discipline which concerns itself with legal aspects of medical science, medical practice and other health care delivery problems. Practitioners of the specialty have training, knowledge and expertise sufficient to address the scope of the specialty from a scholarly, scientific (research) and practical perspective.
Letourneau Award

Kansas Dental Education Opportunities Program
Recipients must be Kansas residents. For graduate students only.
Designed to encourage dentists to establish Kansas practices. Kansas helps pay the difference between resident and nonresident tuition at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Applications also available from UM-KC. Deadline: Rolling.
Edward O. Nesheim Memorial Scholarship
The Scholarship may be used at any post secondary institution of higher education in North Dakota granting Associate or higher degrees. Application deadline is April 1 of the year the scholarship is to be awarded. Recipients of the Nesheim Scholarship may apply for renewal upon satisfactory completion of the previous academic year with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Eligibility requirements:
1. Must be a legal resident of North Dakota and a direct descendant (child, grandchild or great-grandchild) of a U.S. veteran who served honorably. Proof of service and lineage are required.
2. Must have maintained a secondary school GPA of 2.75 or higher.
3. Must be pursuing a degree in some phase of Agriculture, Human Nutrition, or Medicine (Medical Dr, PA, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Pharmacy or Chiropractic.
4. Must be a High School senior or a previous Nesheim Scholarship recipient now attending an institution of higher education.
Scholarships for Emigres in the Health Professions
This program will provide scholarships to emigres from the former Soviet Union to train in medicine, dentistry, dental hygiene, nursing, pharmacy, occupational and physical therapy, and physician assistant programs. Applicants must be female and live within a 50-mile radius of New York City. Grants are awarded based on financial need and academic merit.
Barbara Michaelis Scholarship
Preference to students majoring in Allied Health or a pre-professional program related to a medical field with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Financial need shall be considered.
Chemistry - Academic Opportunity Award
Scholarships are awarded in the following areas of study: Chemistry, Pre-Dental, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Osteopathy, Pre-Pharmacy, and Pre-Optometry. Applicants may submit a supporting letter from a science teacher (preferably the chemistry teacher). This letter is to be submitted to the Chemistry department. Also, the applicants may submit a short statement outlining their academic plans and career goals. These awards are for incoming freshmen only.
Hays Medical Center Volunteers Scholarship
Student must be a junior or senior with high academic standing majoring in the health-related fields.
Harry N. and Melva A. Derickson Scholarship
The Harry N. and Melva A. Derickson Scholarship Fund is an endowment fund of The Foundation for Enhancing
Communities. The income from the fund is used to assist residents from Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry Counties
for a course of study in preparation for medical or dental school, nursing, physical therapy, other medical related
fields, or engineering. Students will be enrolled in undergraduate programs at two or four year colleges or
universities. There will be multiple awards at varying amounts. It is preferred that the number of scholarships be split
equally between males and females.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Residents of Dauphin, Cumberland, or Perry counties
2. Desire to pursue a course of study in preparation for engineering, medical school, dental school, nursing,
physical therapy, or other medical related fields
3. Academic achievement
4. Extracurricular activities
5. Service to the community
6. Financial need
