Communications Scholarships

Here are some of the Communications scholarships on our site for which you may qualify.

Student Member Scholarship

Scholarship recipient must be a current IFDA student member with dues paid in full prior to submission of the scholarship application. Scholarship recipient must be a full-time student. Scholarship recipient will be selected by the IFDA Educational Foundation Board based on the student's academic achievement, future plans and goals. Data will be supplied in this application, the student's essay and the letter of recommendation from the professor or instructor. A $2,000 Student Scholarship is available through the IFDA Educational Foundation to a full-time, current student member of IFDA who has completed a minimum of four design courses in a post-secondary interior design or related program. Multicultural Advertising Internship Program

Internships are highly competitive and openings are limited. To qualify, a student must be: - African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American or Native American; - a citizen or permanent resident of the United States; - currently a college undergraduate junior or senior, or attending graduate school; - achieving a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 (students with a cumulative GPA of 2.7 to 2.9 are encouraged to apply, but must complete an additional essay question in the Student Application); - a major in advertising, communications, marketing, liberal arts, or can demonstrate a commitment to a career in advertising.

National AAJA Internship Grant

This $1,000 grant is given to a student working as an intern at a news organization. Students are generally selected based on the following criteria: - commitment to the field of journalism - sensitivity to Asian American issues as demonstrated by community involvement - journalistic ability - scholastic ability - financial need

Andrew M. Economos Scholarship

Study toward a career in RADIO. Scholarships will be awarded for full-time degree work at the JUNIOR, SENIOR OR GRADUATE level. Scholarships must be used exclusively for tuition, student fees, university book store course purchases, and university dormitory room and board. Current scholarship holders are not eligible for reappointment in the year following their award. All scholarships must be applied to study at a campus where at least one department is a BEA institutional member. The applicant should be able to show substantial evidence of superior academic performance and potential to be an outstanding electronic media professional. There should be compelling evidence that the applicant possesses high integrity and a well-articulated sense of personal and professional responsibility.

Jacque I. Minnotte Health Reporting Fellowship

This award was created to honor former news director and Medstar executive Jacque Minnotte, who died in 1993. This fellowship recognizes excellence in health or medical television and radio reporting. RTNDF will award a $2,000 cash fellowship to a journalist in radio and television with fewer than 10 years of experience. In addition to the $2,000 award, winners of the Jacque I. Minnotte Health Reporting Fellowship are invited to attend the Excellence in Journalism conference. FELLOWSHIP APPLICANT CRITERIA: May only apply for one fellowship Past fellowship winners may not apply for a second RTDNF fellowship Must have fewer than 10 years as a professional journalist REQUIRED ITEMS FOR ALL APPLICATIONS: 1. A completed application form submitted online only. 2. A cover letter, submitted with the online application including these topics: Discuss your current and past journalism experience. Describe how you would use the funds if you were to receive the fellowship. Discuss your choice to pursue a career in electronic journalism. Include in your cover letter 3-5 links to your best and most relevant work samples to the scholarship for which you are applying. Work samples should be broadcast (television/radio) or online news pieces. Entrants are encouraged to upload their work samples to sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Sound Cloud and other platforms, then inlude links to these samples in the cover letter. Entrants are also encouraged to provide a link to their personal website, if this is available, or social media platforms if they are used professionally. Please discuss your role in each of the pieces (producer, editor, reporter, etc). 3. A letter of recommendation from your news manager, submitted with online application. If you are a news manager, include a letter from your general manager.

MALDEF Law & Communications Scholarship

The MALDEF Law School Scholarship Program each year awards scholarships to deserving students entering their first, second, or third year of law school. The Univision - MALDEF Communications Scholarship Program each year awards scholarships to deserving students pursuing a graduate or professional degree in the communications and media fields (print and electronic), including entertainment or media law. Scholarships are awarded to students based upon three primary factors: (1) demonstrated commitment to work with the Latino community; (2) financial need; and (3) academic achievement.

Father Anthony J. O'Driscoll Memorial Scholarship

The American Legion Press Club of New Jersey makes available on an annual basis, a $500 cash scholarship to a student entering his or her freshman year in an accredited four year college. To be eligible one must be either the son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter of a current card holding member of The American Legion, Auxiliary, the survivor of one who was a member of either organization at the time of death, or a member of The Sons of The American Legion or Auxiliary Junior and starting college as a freshman, all of New Jersey. In addition, those residents of New Jersey, also entering his or her freshman year and who has graduated from either American Legion Jersey Boys State or the Auxiliary Girls State Program, shall be eligible. Students must be studying in the field of communications.

Have attained at least junior status by the time the scholarship will be used--Summer or Fall and have at least one full term remaining by the time the scholarship will be awarded; 3. Earned and maintained a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 point scale in all courses. If you are not on a 4.0 grading scale, please explain and document. 4. Membership in the Public Relations Student Society of America is preferred, but is not a requirement. A major or minor in public relations is also preferred. A student who attends a school that does not offer a public relations degree or program must be enrolled in a communications degree program (e.g., journalism or mass communications). 5. Previous award winners are not eligible. 6. Must be of African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Native American, Alaskan Native, or Pacific Islander ancestry.

National Speakers Association Professor Award

$2,000 each for two professors. These awrds will be unrestricted and are to be used at the discretion of the honorees. The successful candidate will: 1. Teach full-time within a department of speech communication in an accredited university. 2. Demonstrate an academically-oriented commitment to the understanding of the spoken word by the individual and society. 3. Show commitment through effective undergraduate or graduate teaching courses in public speaking, presentations, public speaking ethics, etc. And/or through research that has a direct reference to increased understanding of public speaking or presentations.

Communication Studies- Academic Opportunity Award

Communication Studies scholarships are awarded to students in the following areas of study: Journalism, Communication, Theatre and Public Relations. These awards are for incoming freshmen only.
