Chemical Engineering Scholarships

Purpose The award, in the form of a fellowship, is given to assist a student during the summer months (June-September) in the pursuit of work in a field of interest to The Electrochemical Society. Candidates Qualifications The award shall be made without regard to sex, citizenship, race or financial need. It shall be made to a graduate student pursuing work between the degrees of B.S. and Ph. D. in a college or university, and who will continue his or her studies after the summer period. A previous holder of the award is eligible for reappointment. Qualifications shall not be waived in case no candidate qualifies for the award within any one calendar year; instead, the funds normally allotted shall then be added to the investment capital for the awards. It is intended that the recipient should feel he or she is uniquely an ECS Summer Fellow during the period of his or her fellowship; to this end, he or she is required to not hold other named fellowships. Requirements A brief resume or abstract of 100-150 words concerning work performed shall be submitted to the Society by the recipient at the end of the award period, suitable for publication in The Electrochemical Society Interface. Acknowledgment shall be made of an ECS Summer Fellowship Award (Weston, Fink, Richards, or Becket) in any formal publication based on research to which this award period contributed. Selection of Candidates The Chair of the Education Committee shall appoint a subcommittee consisting of five members and one Chair who are on the academic staff of a school of higher learning. The members of the Committee shall be selected, if possible, from various regions of the world. Members should not be restricted to any one region. It is up to the sole judgment of the subcommittee to select candidates and to notify the Chair of the Education Committee of its selection by March 15. Announcement about the award shall be made at least 4 months prior to the deadline for receipt of applications in a Society publication that is distributed to all members. The deadline for receipt of applications shall be January 15. Presented: annually, but are not given at a meeting Contents: certificates, and a fellowship amount decided by Board of Directors to be divided among recipients (currently $5,000 for each award) Lecture: verbal presentation not required. However, the submission of a summer research summary report is required for publication in Winter Interface. Begin Call for nominations: summer of every year. Student Eligibility: Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen enrolled in the engineering program and who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and potential. Terms: One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded. This scholarship is renewable for the sophomore year contingent on continued enrollment in engineering and satisfactory performance in the first year.

Student Eligibility: Applicant must be an incoming freshman or transfer student admitted directly into an engineering program at UDM. Selection will be based on academic and leadership achievement. Terms: Two $500 scholarships will be awarded each year. Scholarship may be renewed for one additional year if a 3.0 GPA is maintained and student remains in the engineering program.

Description: Provides scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students who have shown a career interest or demonstrated practical experience in the plastics industry. Minimum Eligibility: Be a full-time student in good academic standing Be majoring in or taking courses that would be beneficial to a career in the plastics industry. This includes but is not limited to chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and business administration. Be a rising college sophomore, junior or senior at a four-year college or two-year technical school or A graduate of a four-year college seeking to obtain a post-secondary graduate degree.

It is awarded to an active SWE Student Member in her sophomore, junior or senior year, majoring in chemical, architectural, electrical, environmental or mechanical engineering. All SWE scholarships are open only to women majoring in engineering or computer science in a college or university with an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school, and who will be in a specified year of study during the academic year the grant payment is made. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0/4.0 or above.

One $5,000 award will be made annually in the name of the corporation cited as the Recycler of the Year by the Plastics Recycling Division of SPE at their annual Recycling Conference. Criteria: 1. Applicants must have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry. 2. Applicants must be majoring in or taking courses that would be beneficial to a career in the plastics industry. This would include but is not limited to plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and business administration. 3. An applicant must be in good academic standing with his or her college. 4. Financial need of applicant will be considered.

Applicants must have expereince in the thermoset industry, such as courses taken, research conducted or jobs held. Criteria: 1. Applicants must have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry. 2. Applicants must be majoring in or taking courses that would be beneficial to a career in the plastics industry. This would include but is not limited to plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and business administration. 3. An applicant must be in good academic standing with his or her college. 4. Financial need of applicant will be considered.

Thermoforming Division/Ed Segen Memorial Scholarships are available to graduate or undergraduate students in science, engineering and related disciplines who show interest in pursuing a career in the thermoforming industry. Applicants must be attending a 4-year college or graduate school that offers courses, research or related activities in thermoforming. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or better; undergraduates must have completed at least two (2) years of credits. Two $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually to graduate or undergraduate students who are pursuing a career in the plastics industry. Applicants must have experience in the thermoforming industry, such as courses taken, research conducted or jobs held. Criteria: 1. Applicants must have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry. 2. Applicants must be majoring in or taking courses that would be beneficial to a career in the plastics industry. This would include but is not limited to plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and business administration. 3. An applicant must be in good academic standing with his or her college. 4. Financial need of applicant will be considered.

One award of $2,500 is made each year to support undergraduate or graduate research in the field of polymer extrusion. Applicants ,ust be workong on a Senior or MS project which the scholarship will help support. The project must be described in writing, including background, objective, and proposed experiments. The recipients will be expected to furnish a final research summary report. Criteria: 1. Applicants must have a demonstrated or expressed interest in the plastics industry. 2. Applicants must be majoring in or taking courses that would be beneficial to a career in the plastics industry. This would include but is not limited to plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and business administration. 3. An applicant must be in good academic standing with his or her college. 4. Financial need of applicant will be considered.

To be eligible, an applicant must: 1. Be a United States citizen; 2. a) Be a graduating senior, have obtained a Bachelors degree prior to June 15, and entering a Masters degree program in the upcoming fall, OR be a current graduate student in a Masters degree program; and b) Be pursuing, or planning to pursue, a degree in engineering, biology, chemistry, business administration, or other field which may lead to a career in the investor-owned public water supply business. The following persons are not eligible: * Officers or directors of the NAWC, or members of their immediate families. * Officials, representatives, or employees of any agency regulating the water industry, or members of their immediate families.

Eligibility Requirements To be considered for a scholarship through the ACS Scholars Program, candidates must: Be African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian Be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident Be a full-time student at a high school or accredited college, university, or community college Demonstrate high academic achievement in chemistry or science (Grade Point Average 3.0, "B" or better) Demonstrate financial need according to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) and the Student Aid Report (SAR) form Be a graduating high school senior or college freshman, sophomore or junior intending to or already majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically-related science OR intending to or already pursuing a degree in chemical technology Be planning a career in the chemical sciences. Award Amounts The amount of each individual award depends upon the availability of funding, the number of scholarships awarded, and evidence of financial need. Scholarship recipients receive up to a maximum of $5,000 per year. Scholarship awards are renewable.
