Art Scholarships Pennies for Art

Senior in a Massachusetts high school. Scholarships of $800 will be awarded and sent to the accredited art school/college of the recipient's choice.

Eric J. Shook Memorial Art Scholarship

Criteria: Available to Rochester, Adams and Stoney Creek seniors who demonstrates artistic talent and will be majoring in art, photography, film or video in college. Must have minimum 2.5 GPA. Resume of achievements in art, film, video or photography should be submitted in addition to application form. Award: $1000 Biography: Eric J. Shook (1974-1992) graduated from Rochester High in 1992 and was a brilliant photographer and artist. He won numerous state awards and his work was well known by his peers. Applications should be either typed or printed in black ink. Applications in pencil will not be considered.

Art Scholarship Alert

Art Scholarship Alert is a juried art exhibition and scholarship competition for grades 9 through 12, from over twenty Lansing area communities. This program is designed to give recognition and financial assistance for outstanding art students, encourage artistic growth and to provide an opportunity to participate as artists in a professional setting.Young artists learn commitment to a goal and gain self-confidence as they aspire to artistic excellence. Their successes establish them as significant role models for younger students. Students are required to submit a portfolio of five original works of art to be juried by a team of professional artists and educators.Acceptance to the exhibition is determined by the consistency of excellence in each portfolio (not each individual piece) and is judged exclusively within its own grade level. Since 1984 Art Scholarship Alert has awarded over $80,000 to young artists to help further their creative endeavors.In addition to the portfolio competition, students at the senior level may apply for the Sara Jane Venable Scholarship.To qualify for this $1000 award the student must demonstrate an exceptional record of achievement and involvement in the visual arts, prove a commitment to advanced study, write an essay for review, and present a portfolio of artwork including slides. A special panel of jurors selects one senior each year to receive this prestigious award.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Scholarships

Scholarships are granted for use by students enrolled full or part-time (at least three courses) in two- and four-year colleges and universities. Student must be a resident of the Pacific Southwest Chapter Area (San Diego, Las Vegas, Bakersfield, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria or Palm Springs). Students should intend to pursue a career in telecommunications and related fields. Although we are looking for students who are good scholars, evidence of creative achievement is even more important.Materials to be submitted with the Application:A. One of the following:1. A film or video production on which you were the principal writer, director, producer, principal actor or similar major creative role.2. A concept or treatment for a production.3. A script you have written for any type of film or video, along with a brief statement of the type of show and your aims for the film/video.4. A treatment, script or storyboard for a 30-second television Public Service Announcement B. A short statement of your education/experience in telecommunications and your career goals. C. Brief description of your submissionD. Special circumstances (financial or personal) – anything you would like the judges to know regarding your application. E. An official copy of your transcript through the most recent semester or quarter. F. Letters of recommendation from at least two teachers or faculty members who have had the opportunity to oversee your work and aptitude.

NAC Scholarships

The Nantucket Arts Council provides scholarships to those year-round Nantucket residents who are graduating high school seniors and who wish to continue their education in the arts at the college level.The Council will support study in the fields of music, dance, literature, drama, and the visual arts. Scholarships will be awarded to students attending accredited institutions and who are majoring in the arts.The scholarships will be awarded based upon the merits of the candidate, recommendations, interviews, and examples of candidates work.

ChiGems Art & Poetry Scholarship

Amount of Award: $250.00 awarded every other month - 6 awards per yearApplication Requirements/Description: Scholarship for high school students in grades 9 through 12.You must have a minimum 2.0 GPA. Students in grades 9-12 currently enrolled in a public or non-public schools in the United States, and adult non-professionals who wish to continue their art education. The scholarship will be distributed to any accredited school in the United States.Art will be judged on:Beauty- (Beauty is in eye of the beholder) 1. Repeating shapes, patterns, and symmetry. 2. Use of color, especially colors that complement or enhance each other. 3. Textures, both visual and physical (like thick, impasto paint). 4. Crops and compositions that focus the eye and keep the viewers’ attention. 5. Movement or flow to guide viewers through the art. 6. Correct or appealing proportions of figures and objects. 7. PresentationThe essays are judged two ways: 1. Need based - Determined by the financial needs of the student. Explain to us why you need this scholarship. 2. Merit based - Determined by how a student has affected his/her community for the better. Explain how you have contributed to your community and why you deserve this scholarship.Essays are required to have a minimum of 250 to a maximum of 500 words.

Presidential Scholars in the Arts

Each year, 20 YoungArts Finalists are named U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts. At the request of The Commission on Presidential Scholars, which is appointed by the President of the United States, National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, through its YoungArts program serves as the exclusive nominating agency for U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts. Participants in the YoungArts program are the only students eligible to receive the designation of Presidential Scholars in the Arts (PSA), based on their artistic and academic achievements. Being named a Presidential Scholar is the highest scholastic honor available to graduating high school seniors. Each year, a group of 60 PSA nominees are selected from the 150 YoungArts Finalists. From these students, 20 winners are chosen by the Commission on Presidential Scholars and named U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts, alongside 120 academic scholars at a White House ceremony. In addition to this once in a lifetime honor, the visual artists, photographers and writers present their work in an exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the performing artists perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; truly a life changing experience for any young artist.

The Anthony Quinn Foundation

About the Anthony Quinn Scholarship Program Organized as a vehicle to perpetuate Anthony Quinn’s vision for an art conscious society, the Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship Program raises and distributes funds for arts education. The Scholarship Program focuses on the Visual Arts & Design, Performing Arts, Media Arts, and Literary Arts for young adults in high school. Scholarship recipients can apply Foundation funds to any recognized pre-college, summer or after-school arts education program. Funds awarded will be sent directly to the pre-college, summer or after-school arts education program designated by the student. The Anthony Quinn Foundation Scholarship cannot be used for secondary school or college tuition. Criteria The Scholarship Program is for young adults in high school who demonstrate exceptional talent and dedication with a strong commitment to personal artistic growth and who will benefit verifiably from financial support. The Foundation makes an effort to distribute the funds evenly across the fields of focus: Visual Arts & Design, Performing Arts, Media Arts, and Literary Arts. Scholarships are awarded competitively. Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges in order to select scholarship recipients. Judges are practicing artists, arts educators, and experts in the various fields of focus, completely independent from the Foundation’s Board/staff, and geographically dispersed throughout the United States. Additional information may be sought directly from the applicant. How to apply for funding The Anthony Quinn Scholarship Program and is for young adults in high school for use towards a recognized pre-college, summer or after-school arts education program which emphasizes study in the following areas: Visual Arts & Design Performing Arts Media Arts Literary Arts Scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,000. The applicant and the nominator (a teacher, advisor, or other adult outside the applicant’s family) will work on the application together and will provide by the deadline a completed Application Form.
