Virginia Scholarships
Virginia is known as the Old Dominion and also as the Mother of Presidents. This last one is because eight of our Presidents have called Virginia their home. The state economy is comprised of several important sectors, including technology, commerce and agriculture. The federal government is also a key player in the Virginia economy as several key government departments have offices in Virginia including the Central Intelligence Agency and the Department of Defense.
The state of Virginia offers over 130 choices when it comes to colleges, universities and trade schools. These schools come in a wide variety of sizes and styles. Larger schools such as the University of Virginia, Old Dominion University, James Madison University and Virginia State University attract much talent and many students. Smaller schools such as Lynchburg College and Emory and Henry College feature smaller class sizes and a more individualized learning environment.
Individuals looking for college scholarships in Virginia will encounter several pathways to funding. Private scholarship money is awarded for factors ranging from gender and ethnicity to stellar grades and community involvement. Scholarships are also awarded for students pursing certain college majors. These may include nursing, education, engineering, animal science, broadcasting and many more.
