Edna Brown Nursing Scholarship This scholarship was created through the estate of Ralph McRae, a former Charlevoix mayor, civic booster, and philanthropist. Ralph had a longtime admiration for the nursing profession. His mother, Edna Brown, was an unusually caring person who had a reputation for helping others, so Ralph named his fund in her memory. Scholarships will be awarded in an estimated range of $1,000 to $3,000 to students who have been accepted into the nursing program at North Central Michigan College. It can be applied to tuition, books and fees only. If the student is getting other scholarships or educational stipends, the Edna Brown Nursing Scholarship must only be used for last dollar funding. This scholarship is renewable. Criteria: The student must be a resident of Charlevoix or Emmet County who will be enrolled at least three-fourths-time in NCMC.Charlevoix Area Hospital Nursing Scholarship The Charlevoix Area Hospital established this fund to offer nursing scholarships to students who wish to pursue a career or further their career in professional nursing. Currently, one $1,350 nursing scholarship is available from this fund and is renewable for a second year. Criteria: Student who lives in the hospital service area and has been accepted in a nursing program at an accredited school of professional nursing in Michigan. Consideration will be given to grade point average, personal statement, demonstrated leadership ability, extra curricular school and community activities, and demonstrated financial need. Applicant must include a completed financial statement as well as the common application form. This scholarship provides one $300 scholarship to a Farm Bureau memberThe Eary Family Memorial Scholarship The Eary family of East Jordan was a family of educators, advocating vocational education and continuing education in general for many local students. This memorial scholarship fund was named after this family of community activists and will provide two $300 scholarships for both recipients of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) Scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance for a student who will attend an accredited trade or vocational education school or program. Note: Applicants for the Eary Family Scholarship are automatically eligible for the MARSP Memorial Scholarship. The same set of criteria and the same selection committee are used for both scholarship funds. Applicants need to submit only one application to apply for both the Eary and the MARSP scholarships.
