Alabama, The Yellowhammer State, the Heart of Dixie. This jewel of the South offers the full range of scholarship opportunities. There are merit-based funding offers and need-based scholarships also. If you live in Alabama or plan on studying there, you'll want to explore the available scholarships listed below. The results may help you realize your educational and vocational dreams.

If you want to explore these funding opportunities at greater length, you should begin your journey by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is necessary for a host of available funds. It is the necessary first step for accessing not only state and federal funds but also some private money.

In addition to completing the FAFSA, you'll also want to fill out the CSS/PROFILE form, designed by the College Board. To find out more about these essential forms and why you'll need them, please refer to the helpful articles listed under our Resources tab. It is essential to keep all the appropriate deadlines in mind as missing one could derail your chances of accessing important funds.

The state of Alabama offers a diverse and eclectic mix of educational institutions. The University of Alabama is one of the largest and best rated universities in the state. It is ranked first in the state by the U.S. News and World Report magazine. The university features the fourth most National Merit Scholars in the nation.

The largest private higher education institution in the state is Samford University located in Birmingham. Samford features a student population of just under 3,000 in an idyllic suburban setting. Samford is ranked third in U.S. News and World Report's list of regional universities.

Agriculture is big in Alabama, with just under half of the state's landmass devoted to agricultural concerns. Pulp and paper product production is another big business in the state. Other major industries include chemical production, electronics, textiles, processed food and automobiles.

Owing to the importance of agriculture for the state, there should remain plenty of funding opportunities for students enrolled in degree programs relating to fields such as agribusiness, agronomy, soil science, horticulture, animal sciences and agricultural products.

But don't think this represents the whole funding picture when it comes to the state of Alabama. Scholarships are also available for fields such as nursing, legal studies, engineering, accounting, theology, the humanities, journalism and much, much more.
